In a report released yesterday, the US panel alleged that some security officials were allegedly linked to incidents involving kidnappings and violent attacks targeting civilians, particularly in the central and northern regions. The report stated that multiple and overlapping factors, including religion in many cases, likely spur Fulani militants to attack communities or individuals. The USCIRF report follows earlier allegations that 30,000 armed Fulani militants are driving Nigeria’s insecurity. The panel’s findings have intensified scrutiny of the Nigerian security sector, already under pressure due to rising kidnappings, banditry, and communal clashes across the country.
