Troops Rescue 360 Women, Children Abducted by Boko Haram in Gwoza

Article arrow_drop_down

Nigerian security personnel have rescued 360 hostages, including many women and children, from a mountainous refuge in Borno State, where they had been held by Boko Haram’s Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) faction. The operation, led by the Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI, targeted the Mandara Mountains in the southern part of the state.

The military confirmed Sunday that the hostages had been abducted by the JAS faction over an indeterminate period from various localities across the region. A collaborative task force, including special forces, compelled JAS militants to flee their positions and liberated the captives.

During the rescue, two children died from exhaustion and severe conditions they endured while in captivity. The military reported these deaths as tragic casualties of the prolonged holding conditions.

The operation was intelligence-driven and focused on the Mandara Mountains, a known stronghold for JAS terrorists. The Mandara range has served as a transit route and enclave for the insurgents, who frequently use the rugged terrain to evade capture.

This rescue comes after a major abduction in Ngoshe village, Gwoza Local Government Area, where 416 people, mostly women and children, were abducted by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists. Since that tragedy, some of the captives have been rescued, including a recent recovery of six individuals on May 1, 2026, who were reunited with family members in Ngoshe.

Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume (Borno South) has hailed the Federal Government and troops for the rescue of the Ngoshe captives from Boko Haram, noting that sustained offensive actions, including air interdiction missions targeting terrorist enclaves in the Mandara Mountains, led to the liberation of captives.

The rescue of 360 hostages is the largest in recent months in Borno State, following similar operations in Sambisa Forest where 350 hostages were freed in 2024, and earlier operations in Gava and Gobara villages in Gwoza where 25 captives were rescued in 2023.

How Villain Roles Hurt Our Lives Off-Screen, Says Radical

Actor Radical has spoken about how playing villain roles on-screen can negatively affect actors' lives off-screen, describing the psychological toll of embodying dark characters for extended periods. The actor explained that villain roles require intense emotional investment that can lead to what experts call "emotional bleed." Emotional bleed is a psychological phenomenon where the emotions, thoughts, and behaviors of a character an actor is playing begin to spill over or "bleed" into their personal life, making it difficult to distinguish between their own feelings and those of the character. This can lead to identity confusion, burnout, depression, anxiety, and strained personal relationships. Radical described the challenges of playing villain characters as a dangerous tightrope walk, requiring actors to maintain firm psychological boundaries and practice specific de-roling techniques after performance. The main dangers of method acting arise when actors blur the […]

US Eyes Redirecting Iranian Assets to Gulf Allies for Reconstruction

The U.S. government will attempt to redirect Iranian assets to Gulf states for rebuilding and repairs of damage caused by Iran, including future destruction expected to be inflicted by Tehran, a source familiar with the matter said on Saturday. The move comes a day after a wave of attacks by Iran against Kuwait and Bahrain. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has also directed a team to assess costs for damage already inflicted on Gulf allies by Iran. The United States will consider using Iranian assets for those repairs as well, according to the source. The source did not specify what kind of assets the Treasury was examining. The language used to describe the new measures did not appear limited to frozen assets, suggesting that the U.S. could examine a broader range of Iranian financial holdings. He therefore announced that NANS is now moving to the final “C”: Confrontation, as it prepares to escalate the issue. 2027: Obi–Kwankwaso Bid Faces Northern Resistance

Moves to float a joint 2027 presidential ticket featuring Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso are already running into stiff resistance from key northern stakeholders. While support groups have been promoting an Obi–Kwankwaso alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) or a new platform, many northern leaders say they remain unconvinced about the project and its chances. Northern elders and youth groups argue that Obi still suffers a trust deficit in parts of the region, with some politicians repeatedly linking him to alleged sympathy for the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) – a charge his camp has consistently denied. They also insist that his 2023 performance in core northern states shows he has a lot of ground to cover despite strong youth enthusiasm and social media visibility. There are also complaints that the proposed platform for the alliance is […]
