Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have killed at least 50 Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists in renewed operations in Nigeria’s North-East, the military has said.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, troops neutralised the terrorists while repelling a coordinated ISWAP assault on the headquarters of the 27 Task Force Brigade in Buni Gari and a nearby checkpoint in Yobe State. The insurgents launched the attack in the early hours of Thursday but were forced to retreat after fierce resistance from ground troops supported by air power.
The military disclosed that “no fewer than 50 terrorists were neutralised” in the encounter, while a large cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the fleeing fighters. Items seized included AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, explosives and other logistics supplies used by the group.
In a related operation, troops under Operation Hadin Kai, working with the Air Component, also neutralised dozens of terrorists and a senior ISWAP commander during precision air interdiction strikes on confirmed terrorist positions in parts of Borno State, including the Timbuktu Triangle axis. The coordinated air–land operations further degraded the group’s capabilities in the Lake Chad and Sambisa corridors.
The statement added that two soldiers paid the supreme price in the Yobe encounter, while several others sustained injuries and are receiving treatment at a military medical facility. Commanders commended the gallantry of the troops and condoled with the families of the fallen heroes, assuring that their sacrifices would not be in vain.
Military authorities described the latest success as part of intensified, intelligence-driven offensives aimed at dismantling remaining ISWAP and Boko Haram networks across Borno and Yobe. They urged residents to continue providing timely information on suspicious movements to security agencies to help consolidate recent gains.
