Turkey opposes military operations against Iran

Turkey says it is against any military operation against Iran, warning that foreign intervention would only deepen crises in the country and across the Middle East. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told journalists in Istanbul that Iran’s internal problems must be resolved by Iranians themselves, not imposed from outside. Fidan said Ankara does not want instability in neighbouring Iran, even though it recognises there are serious issues within Iranian society and government. He cautioned that attempts by the United States or Israel to use force would likely worsen tensions and trigger wider regional conflict. The minister noted that the current protests in Iran stem from legitimate grievances, but that they are also being exploited by Iran’s external enemies. He said Turkey’s priority is to encourage dialogue and a negotiated understanding between Washington and Tehran, which he described as crucial for regional […]

Trump posts self as ‘acting president’ of Venezuela

US President Donald Trump has shared a doctored image on his Truth Social account describing himself as the “Acting President of Venezuela, incumbent January 2026.” The graphic, styled to look like a Wikipedia page, lists him as both the 45th and 47th US president and claims he now leads the South American country. The post comes days after a US military operation in Caracas that saw Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores captured and flown to New York to face drug and weapons related charges. Trump has said his administration will “run” Venezuela and oversee its oil assets during what he calls a transition period. Despite Trump’s online claim, no international body or foreign government has recognised him as Venezuela’s acting leader. The country’s actual acting president is Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, who has rejected US authority […]

Eric Opoku Condemns Military’s “Excessive” Operation in Hwidiem

Asunafo South MP Eric Opoku has condemned the military’s response to the attack on members of the NAIMOS taskforce in Hwidiem, calling the follow-up operation excessive and alarming. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Opoku said he supports holding anyone who assaults security personnel accountable, but argued the military’s actions “went far beyond what is acceptable in a democracy.” “I’m not happy with the excesses in the Hwidiem incident. I have no issue with people facing the law for attacking soldiers or the NAIMOS taskforce, but attacking an entire community and causing the death of an innocent person is unacceptable,” he said. The military reportedly moved into Hwidiem and nearby communities days after the taskforce was attacked, triggering fear among residents. A young man was shot dead during the operation, and several others were allegedly beaten or taken from their […]
