Iran withdraws UN draft resolution on nuclear facility attacks

Iran has withdrawn a draft resolution at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that sought to ban attacks on nuclear facilities, citing heavy US pressure on member states. The resolution, co-sponsored with Belarus, China, Nicaragua, Russia, and Venezuela, was due to be tabled at the IAEA’s annual general conference in Vienna on Thursday. It condemned the June 2025 Israeli bombing campaign against Iran that escalated into a 12-day war involving Israeli and US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites. However, Iran’s ambassador to the IAEA, Reza Najafi, told delegates the resolution would not proceed to a vote. “A large number of IAEA member states… have stated in separate contacts with Iran and other sponsors of the resolution that they are under severe pressure and intimidation from the United States not to vote in favour,” Najafi said. Draft text condemned June attacks […]

Speaking alongside Prime Minister Keir Starmer at Chequers, Trump revealed he had expected the Ukraine conflict to be the “easiest” to resolve because of his personal ties with Putin. “He’s really let me down,” Trump said. “If the price of oil comes down, Putin’s going to drop out of that war. Europe must stop buying Russian oil.” The two leaders discussed a range of issues, including Ukraine, Gaza, trade, migration, and technology. ‘Unbreakable bond’ and tech deal Earlier in the day, Trump hailed America’s “unbreakable bond” with Britain as both countries signed a landmark tech deal spanning artificial intelligence, quantum computing, and nuclear energy. His contract includes an option for both the club and Mourinho to review the agreement up to 10 days after the […]

The case has been referred to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, with SAFA and the player given six days to submit their defence. Mokoena, 28, should have been suspended for the Lesotho match after accumulating two yellow cards earlier in the qualifiers — first against Benin in November 2023 and then against Zimbabwe in June 2024.
