Egypt’s Antiquities Ministry has launched an investigation after a 3,000-year-old gold bracelet vanished from the restoration laboratory of Cairo’s Egyptian Museum in Tahrir Square. The missing artefact, described as a golden band inlaid with spherical lapis lazuli beads, dates back to the reign of Pharaoh Amenemope of the 21st Dynasty (1070–945 BC). The ministry confirmed the disappearance in a statement late Tuesday but did not specify when the piece was last seen. Egyptian media reported that the loss was detected only in recent days during an inventory check, though this has not been independently verified. Authorities have launched an internal probe and placed all airports, seaports, and land border crossings on alert in case of an attempted smuggling. A full inventory of the lab’s contents is currently underway. The Egyptian Museum, home to over 170,000 artefacts, is internationally renowned for […]

Iran executes man convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad

Iran on Wednesday hanged Babak Shahbazi, convicted of spying for Israel’s Mossad since 2022, the judiciary announced via Mizan Online. The Supreme Court upheld his death sentence for “corruption on earth” and “waging war against God.” Shahbazi, who worked on industrial cooling systems for firms tied to Iran’s military, security, and telecom sectors, allegedly passed sensitive data to Mossad in exchange for money and foreign residency. The execution follows Iran’s vow of “swift justice” against suspected collaborators after its June war with Israel. In August, Iran executed Roozbeh Vadi, an Atomic Energy Organisation employee, for allegedly leaking details on nuclear scientists and facilities. In July, Iran’s intelligence ministry claimed it had arrested 20 Mossad-linked operatives across Tehran and other provinces. Rights groups, including Amnesty International, list Iran as the second-highest executioner worldwide after China.
