Libyan authorities have detained several Argentina fans in the eastern city of Ajdabiya after post match celebrations turned into street clashes and disruption. Reports said police moved in when rival groups of supporters began confronting each other following a World Cup game.
According to local updates the crowds blocked traffic and created what officials described as a breach of public order. Police and security units were deployed to disperse the gathering and restore movement on major roads
Authorities said those arrested were detained because of their disruptive behaviour and involvement in the altercations rather than for simply supporting Argentina. Videos shared online showed groups of young men in Argentina jerseys being rounded up by officers in Ajdabiya’s streets
Witnesses said tensions rose as rival fans taunted one another after the match result. The situation escalated into scuffles and stone throwing before security forces intervened to prevent further violence.
Local outlets reported that some of the detained fans had their heads forcibly shaved by police as a form of punishment and warning, a move that has drawn criticism on social media. Commenters have questioned the response, arguing that while disorder should be addressed, public humiliation is an excessive measure.
Officials have not announced how long the detained supporters will be held or whether they will face formal charges. The incident adds to recent concerns about football related unrest in Libya, where previous matches have also sparked clashes between fans and security forces.

Jim Iyke says formal education is not enough for success
Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has said that formal education alone is not enough to guarantee success in life. He said many people who did well in school are not always the ones who do best in business or in the real world. According to him, practical experience, street knowledge and lessons from mentors can matter more in building wealth. Iyke said the idea that school alone can secure a successful future is misleading. He argued that many successful people learned important life skills outside the classroom. He also shared a personal example, saying he is doing better than some of his former lecturers. He used the example to support his view that life achievements do not always depend on academic certificates. The actor said he learned valuable lessons from traders and older people who guided him on survival and decision […]

The resolution was reached during plenary after senators debated the rising wave of killings, abductions and attacks on serving and retired military personnel. The motion was sponsored by Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua. Several lawmakers argued that criminals should not be rewarded while violence continues. They said the government should focus more on punishment, intelligence gathering and stronger security operations. Graham Platner Suspends Maine Senate Campaign
Democratic US Senate candidate Graham Platner has suspended his campaign in Maine following a series of controversies, including a recent allegation of sexual assault that prompted senior party leaders to withdraw their support. In a video posted on social media, Platner denied the allegation, describing it as false. He said his decision to suspend campaign activities was driven by the loss of backing from Democratic leaders and campaign organizations rather than an admission of wrongdoing. Platner stated that he would formally withdraw from the race only after receiving assurances that the process to select a replacement candidate would be transparent, open and democratic. Under Maine election law, he must officially withdraw by 13 July for another Democratic nominee to appear on the November ballot. The race is considered one of the most important Senate contests in the upcoming midterm elections, […]

Ebola Misinformation Fuels Violence in DR Congo
Misinformation surrounding the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is fueling violence against health workers and disrupting efforts to contain the disease, according to humanitarian organizations and medical officials. One of the latest incidents occurred in Bunia, where Red Cross volunteer Daniel Uyirwoth Welo and three colleagues were attacked while transporting the body of an Ebola victim for a safe burial. Welo said they were assaulted by a crowd armed with tools, including spades and machetes, after false rumours spread that the coffin was empty and that Ebola was not real. The attack reflects growing resistance to public health measures during the outbreak, which has infected more than 1,750 people and claimed around 600 lives since mid-May, according to official figures. Aid agencies say misinformation has led some communities to reject medical advice, interfere with burials and […]

US-Iran Talks Face Fresh Uncertainty
Diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran remain uncertain despite President Donald Trump's latest remarks, which mixed harsh criticism of Tehran with indications that negotiations are still expected to continue. Speaking after the NATO summit, Trump strongly condemned Iran's leadership, accusing it of being dangerous and insisting that the country should never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon. He also issued fresh military threats, warning that the United States could launch more powerful strikes if necessary. While reaffirming Washington's military capabilities, Trump suggested that talks led by his negotiating team could proceed, although he questioned whether they would produce meaningful results. His comments reflected a combination of pressure and diplomacy rather than a complete abandonment of negotiations. Recent exchanges of military strikes between the United States and Iran have further complicated the diplomatic process. Negotiations were temporarily paused […]
