Why I’m not a single mum – Annie Macaulay

Nollywood actress Annie Macaulay has clarified that she does not want to be described as a “single mum”, insisting that she is a single woman raising two children. In a post shared via her Instagram stories, the estranged wife of music star 2Baba wrote: “I’m not a single mum. I’m a single woman raising two kids,” drawing a clear line between her marital status and how her motherhood is labelled. Her statement comes in the wake of her much publicised split from 2Baba, with the actress increasingly asserting her identity by using her maiden name and correcting platforms that still attach her ex husband’s surname to her. Annie’s choice of words has sparked mixed reactions online, as some critics accuse her of merely playing with semantics, while others defend her right to define herself in a way that reflects her personal journey […]

UEFA sanctions Tottenham over fans’ Nazi gestures in Champions League tie

UEFA has sanctioned Tottenham Hotspur after three of the club’s supporters were found to have made Nazi style salutes during a Champions League away match against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. The European football body fined Spurs 30,000 euros for racist and discriminatory behaviour and imposed a suspended one match ban on selling away tickets in UEFA competitions. The away ticket ban will only take effect if there is a repeat offence within a one year probationary period, meaning it does not affect Tottenham’s upcoming last 16 trip to face Atletico Madrid. UEFA also issued a separate 2,250 euro fine after some Spurs supporters were found to have thrown objects during the 2–0 win at Deutsche Bank Park on January 28. Tottenham said it fully cooperated with UEFA’s investigation, as well as with German police and the Metropolitan Police, and condemned […]

Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to take urgent action to halt what it describes as a “war” waged against it by the United States and Israel. In a statement at UN headquarters, Iran’s permanent representative Amir Saeid Iravani said the council “must act firmly, clearly and without ambiguity” against the military strikes on Iranian territory. He accused Washington and Tel Aviv of launching “deliberate and unprovoked” acts of aggression in violation of the UN Charter and insisted that Iran’s response was a lawful exercise of self defence under Article 51. Iravani stressed that Iran does not seek […]
