Dangote Refinery denies petrol export and re-import claims
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied claims that its petrol is being exported to Togo and then brought back into Nigeria. The company said the allegation is false and does not reflect its business operations. It explained that the claims are not supported by trade records, commercial logic, or its normal supply process. According to the refinery, its sales contracts do not allow the resale or re-importation of its products into Nigeria. The company said this rule is part of its standard compliance system. Dangote Refinery also said the alleged trade route would not make economic sense. It noted that shipping fuel from Nigeria to Lomé and back into Nigeria would add extra logistics costs that would make such a plan unprofitable. The company said no rational producer would spend additional money on shipping, storage, financing and handling only for the […]

State police debate advances in Senate
Nigeria’s debate over state police has moved forward after President Bola Tinubu sent a constitutional amendment bill to the Senate. The proposal seeks to create a legal framework for state police as part of wider efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security system. Lawmakers say the plan could help states respond faster to local security challenges. The bill was read in the Senate and referred to the Constitution Review Committee for further work. The committee is expected to examine the proposal and report back to the Senate before any final decision is made. Supporters of state police say the current federal policing structure is no longer enough to handle the country’s growing security problems. They believe giving states more control over policing could improve response time and intelligence gathering. However, the proposal is still subject to more legislative steps. For the bill […]

El-Rufai to file no-case submission as DSS closes case
Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, is expected to file a no-case submission after the Department of State Services closed its case in his alleged phone tapping trial. The development came during a hearing at the Federal High Court in Abuja. The prosecution informed the court that it would not call any more witnesses, which officially brought its case to an end. El-Rufai’s lawyer told the court that the defence would now challenge the case by arguing that the evidence presented was not enough to require the former governor to enter a defence. The matter has been adjourned for further proceedings, including the filing of the no-case submission. The case continues to draw public attention because it involves a former governor, the DSS, and allegations linked to phone interception and national security.
