Why I almost quit music, by Superboy Cheque

Nigerian singer and rapper Superboy Cheque has revealed that he once considered quitting music at the height of his struggles with severe acne and low self esteem. Speaking in a recent interview, the Penthauze act said his skin condition affected his confidence so badly that he became extremely insecure about appearing in public or shooting music videos. Cheque explained that the breakout on his face made him feel unattractive and held him back from fully embracing fame, to the point that he thought about abandoning his music dreams altogether. He said treatment and gradual healing of his acne, alongside the support of close friends and colleagues who believed in his talent, helped him regain confidence and stay focused on his career. The “Zoom” hitmaker added that he now feels more comfortable in his own skin and hopes his story encourages […]

Super Falcons eye revenge in second friendly against Cameroon

Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to face Cameroon’s Indomitable Lionesses again on Tuesday in Yaounde, aiming to bounce back from a narrow 1–0 defeat in their first pre WAFCON 2026 friendly. Both teams are using the two–match series, played at the Military Stadium in the Cameroonian capital, to fine tune tactics and assess players ahead of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. In Saturday’s opener, the Falcons created several chances but were undone by a late goal, leaving head coach Justin Madugu and his players determined to respond with a stronger performance in the second game. Madugu is expected to tweak his line up and possibly adjust formations, with second half substitutes such as Joy Omewa, Precious Christopher, Folashade Ijamilusi, Esther Onyenezide and Michelle Alozie all pushing for starting roles after bright cameos. NFF officials say the matches […]

UEFA sanctions Tottenham over fans’ Nazi gestures in Champions League tie

UEFA has sanctioned Tottenham Hotspur after three of the club’s supporters were found to have made Nazi style salutes during a Champions League away match against Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany. The European football body fined Spurs 30,000 euros for racist and discriminatory behaviour and imposed a suspended one match ban on selling away tickets in UEFA competitions. The away ticket ban will only take effect if there is a repeat offence within a one year probationary period, meaning it does not affect Tottenham’s upcoming last 16 trip to face Atletico Madrid. UEFA also issued a separate 2,250 euro fine after some Spurs supporters were found to have thrown objects during the 2–0 win at Deutsche Bank Park on January 28. Tottenham said it fully cooperated with UEFA’s investigation, as well as with German police and the Metropolitan Police, and condemned […]

Ronaldo jets out of Saudi Arabia to Madrid as US–Iran conflict escalates

Al Nassr superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has left Saudi Arabia for Madrid amid escalating US–Iran tensions and drone attacks that have hit targets in the kingdom and across the Gulf. Flight tracking data showed his Bombardier Global Express private jet departing Riyadh on Monday night and landing in the Spanish capital after a roughly seven hour flight over Egypt and the Mediterranean. His departure came hours after Iranian drones struck the US embassy compound in Riyadh, part of a wider wave of retaliatory missile and drone attacks across the region following the killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in US–Israeli strikes. Reports say Ronaldo left with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and their children, as many foreign nationals and celebrities seek to temporarily relocate from frontline Gulf states over security concerns. The Asian Football Confederation has already suspended several West […]

Iran urges UN Security Council to act to stop war with US and Israel

Iran has called on the United Nations Security Council to take urgent action to halt what it describes as a “war” waged against it by the United States and Israel. Tehran’s appeal came after days of heavy US Israeli airstrikes that killed Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials, followed by Iranian missile and drone attacks across the region, including on a US embassy in Saudi Arabia. In a statement at UN headquarters, Iran’s permanent representative Amir Saeid Iravani said the council “must act firmly, clearly and without ambiguity” against the military strikes on Iranian territory. He accused Washington and Tel Aviv of launching “deliberate and unprovoked” acts of aggression in violation of the UN Charter and insisted that Iran’s response was a lawful exercise of self defence under Article 51. Iravani stressed that Iran does not seek […]

FG begins payment of delayed February salaries, blames technical glitch

The Federal Government has commenced payment of February 2026 salaries to treasury funded workers after days of delay that sparked anxiety among civil servants. The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation said the delay was caused by a technical glitch in the salary payment system, which has now been fixed, with measures put in place to prevent a recurrence. According to the statement by OAGF spokesperson Bawa Mokwa, payment of February salaries started on Monday, March 2, with workers expected to receive alerts as banks process the transactions. The office also confirmed that one month out of the outstanding wage award arrears has been paid, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of economic reforms on federal workers. Officials noted that federal salaries are usually credited before the end of the month and apologised for the inconvenience caused by […]

Army intercepts 296 wraps of suspected cannabis in Ogun

Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 35 Artillery Brigade, Alamala Barracks, Abeokuta, have intercepted 296 large wraps of substances suspected to be cannabis sativa in Ogun State. The suspects were arrested during a stop and search operation along a major route in the state, after soldiers became suspicious of a commercial vehicle and ordered a thorough inspection. According to the army, the illicit substances were carefully concealed in multiple compartments of the vehicle in a bid to evade security checks. The driver and one other occupant were taken into custody after allegedly failing to provide satisfactory explanations or valid documentation for the consignment. Preliminary findings suggest the drugs were being transported from a border community for distribution to other parts of the southwest. The army said the seized wraps and suspects will be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement […]

Iran drones hit US embassy in Saudi Arabia, cause fire but no casualties

Iranian drones have struck the United States embassy compound in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in one of Tehran’s most direct attacks on American diplomatic assets since the current Gulf conflict escalated. Saudi Arabia’s Defence Ministry said two drones hit the embassy in the early hours of Tuesday, sparking a limited fire and causing minor structural damage but no casualties, as the mission was closed at the time. Witnesses reported a loud explosion and black smoke rising over Riyadh’s Diplomatic Quarter, which houses several foreign embassies and international organisations. Saudi air defences were reported to have intercepted additional drones aimed at the diplomatic district, amid warnings that Iran is expanding its retaliation beyond military bases to industrial and diplomatic targets across the region. US President Donald Trump said Washington would respond to the attack and to the recent deaths of four American […]

Fed Govt begins implementing salary agreement with ASUU

The Federal Government has begun implementing key welfare provisions in its 2025 renegotiated agreement with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU). Education Minister Maruf Tunji Alausa said the government has fulfilled its obligation to implement a 40 percent increase in the Consolidated Academic Allowance (CAA) for ASUU members, effective from January 1, 2026. He explained that some federal universities have already reflected the new rates in lecturers’ pay, while others are being directed to fully cascade the approved increment across their payroll so all eligible academic staff benefit. The minister added that the increase has been captured and circularised by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and that its inclusion in the 2026 budget is now a formal statutory process. Beyond CAA, Alausa said implementation of the Consolidated Tools Allowance (CATA) and other agreed welfare components is also […]
