UK Festival Season Begins Under Hot Weather

Article arrow_drop_down

Music fans across the UK are heading into festival season this May Bank Holiday weekend, with major events taking place under soaring temperatures expected across the country. From huge headline acts to packed campsites, organisers are also reminding festivalgoers to stay safe and hydrated during the hot weather.

Artists including Olivia Dean, Sub Focus and Kate Nash are among the performers entertaining crowds at festivals such as Radio 1 Big Weekend, Love Saves the Day and Bearded Theory.

With temperatures climbing, health experts say staying hydrated should be a top priority. Drinking alcohol in hot conditions can increase dehydration, as the body loses extra fluids through sweating and urination. Festivalgoers are encouraged to regularly drink water and make use of refill stations available on-site.

Loose and lightweight clothing is also recommended to help the body stay cool. Experts warn that tight or heavy fabrics can trap heat and prevent sweat from evaporating properly. Sunscreen remains essential, especially for those spending long hours outdoors.

Camping conditions can become particularly uncomfortable during heatwaves. Smaller tents often trap heat quickly, especially in direct sunlight. Festival staff advise campers to choose larger tents where possible, improve airflow by opening entrances toward the breeze, and use portable battery-powered fans to improve ventilation.

Medical professionals are also warning people to protect medications from excessive heat. Medicines such as insulin, inhalers and EpiPens may lose effectiveness if exposed to high temperatures for long periods. Keeping them in shaded or cooler areas is strongly advised.

Festival organisers have expanded cooling and welfare facilities in recent years as extreme weather becomes more common. Many events now provide free water stations, shaded rest areas and welfare tents to help visitors cope with rising temperatures.

Health officials also urge festivalgoers to watch for signs of heat exhaustion or heatstroke, including dizziness, headaches, excessive sweating, nausea and high body temperature. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms should seek medical help immediately.

US-Iran Talks Face Fresh Uncertainty

Diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran remain uncertain despite President Donald Trump's latest remarks, which mixed harsh criticism of Tehran with indications that negotiations are still expected to continue. Speaking after the NATO summit, Trump strongly condemned Iran's leadership, accusing it of being dangerous and insisting that the country should never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon. He also issued fresh military threats, warning that the United States could launch more powerful strikes if necessary. While reaffirming Washington's military capabilities, Trump suggested that talks led by his negotiating team could proceed, although he questioned whether they would produce meaningful results. His comments reflected a combination of pressure and diplomacy rather than a complete abandonment of negotiations. Recent exchanges of military strikes between the United States and Iran have further complicated the diplomatic process. Negotiations were temporarily paused […]

The victims, aged between 25 and 94, were all seriously ill but were not considered to be at immediate risk of death. During the trial, prosecutors argued that the doctor intentionally administered fatal doses of medication to patients during home visits without obtaining their consent. Investigators also revealed that, in several cases, the doctor allegedly started fires at victims' homes in an attempt to destroy evidence and conceal the crimes. Davido apologises to Tosinbee over custody case mix-up

Afrobeats star Davido has apologised to gospel singer Tosinbee after wrongly linking him to a lawyer involved in his ongoing child custody battle. The mix-up started after a tense court session over the custody of Davido’s daughter, Imade, involving his estranged partner, Sophia Momodu. Following the hearing at the Lagos State High Court, Davido went on social media to criticise one of Sophia’s lawyers. In the process, he reshared a post by Tosinbee, apparently assuming the singer was the lawyer’s son, and used harsh words against him. Tosinbee quickly clarified that he had no connection to the lawyer or the custody case. He explained that his mother died eight years ago and described the situation as a simple case of mistaken identity while offering prayers and goodwill to Davido. After Tosinbee’s explanation, Davido admitted the error and issued a brief […]

Fed’s Lisa Cook Battles Trump’s Firing Attempt

Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook will head to federal court on Friday to seek an emergency temporary restraining order to block her removal by President Donald Trump. The move comes as part of a legal battle over the president’s attempt to fire her from the Federal Reserve Board of Governors. Trump announced Cook’s removal in a letter posted on his Truth Social account earlier this week, alleging mortgage fraud. The announcement escalates his long-running feud with the Fed, an institution that has historically operated independently of the White House. In response, Cook filed a lawsuit challenging the dismissal, asking the court to declare Trump’s firing order “unlawful and void.” The case could have significant implications for the autonomy of the US central bank. Democrats have sharply criticized Trump’s action, describing it as an unprecedented level of political interference in the […]

Kim Jong Un, Putin Join Xi at Beijing Military Parade

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un attending a military parade in central Beijing alongside Russian president Vladimir Putin and China’s leader Xi Jinping is not just a striking image — it is also a diplomatic triumph for Xi. For years, the Chinese leader has been positioning Beijing not only as the world’s second-largest economy but also as a global diplomatic heavyweight. By welcoming both Kim and Putin, Xi is reinforcing China’s influence in international affairs while signalling that he may hold the geopolitical cards in ongoing global negotiations. The parade, set for 3 September, marks 80 years since Japan’s surrender in World War Two, ending its occupation of parts of China. But beyond military display, Xi has turned it into a showcase of his political clout. With Trump considering a regional visit later in October and leaving the door open […]

UN Demands Accountability After Israeli Strikes Kill Journalists and Health Workers at Gaza Hospital

The United Nations has called for “accountability and justice” after back-to-back Israeli strikes on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis killed at least 20 people, including health workers, journalists, and first responders. The attack on Monday has drawn global outrage from press freedom groups, medical organizations, and foreign governments. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said an initial inquiry found that soldiers from the Golani Brigade had identified a camera allegedly set up by Hamas near the hospital. The military claimed the camera was being used to monitor Israeli troop movements and direct attacks. However, Israel did not provide evidence to support the claim, nor did it explain why two consecutive strikes were carried out within minutes — even though the area is well-known as a gathering spot for journalists who frequently livestream from the location. The IDF also said six “terrorists” […]

Trump Seeks to Remove Fed Governor Lisa Cook

US President Donald Trump has announced plans to remove Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook, marking an unprecedented escalation in his standoff with America’s central bank. Trump claimed there was “sufficient reason” to believe Cook made false statements on mortgage agreements. He invoked what he described as constitutional powers to justify her dismissal. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump alleged Cook signed one mortgage in Michigan declaring the property as her primary residence, only to sign another in Georgia two weeks later with the same declaration. In response, Cook said Trump had no authority to remove her and vowed to stay in her position. “He has no authority to do so. I will not resign. I will continue to carry out my duties to help the American economy,” she said. Her lawyer, Abbe David Lowell, warned that legal […]
