Nigeria at High Risk of Ebola Virus Importation – NCDC

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has declared Nigeria at "high risk" of Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) being imported into the country. The NCDC activated emergency response teams following the alert. The agency classified the risk as high due to ongoing Ebola outbreaks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and a recently reported imported case in Uganda. NCDC Director-General stated that the agency is closely monitoring developments across the region and working with relevant stakeholders, including the Port Health Service of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, to strengthen vigilance and preparedness within Nigeria's public health system. Ebola Risk High Inside DR Congo No Pandemic Emergency WHO Says

The World Health Organization has said that the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo poses a high risk inside the country but does not represent a global pandemic emergency. WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus made this statement on Wednesday after meeting with the agency's emergency committee. He confirmed that the outbreak is a public health emergency of international concern but said it does not meet the criteria for a pandemic emergency. The outbreak is concentrated in eastern Ituri province of DR Congo. Health officials have recorded about 246 suspected cases and 80 deaths so far. AFCON 2027 Super Eagles in Tricky Group with Madagascar Tanzania Guinea-Bissau

The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and Tanzania for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The draw was held on Tuesday in Cairo Egypt setting up another challenging qualification campaign for the three-time African champions. Tanzania is one of the co-hosts of the 2027 tournament alongside Kenya and Uganda. As a co-host Tanzania will automatically qualify from the group regardless of their final position. Nigeria’s Super Eagles will on Tuesday know their opponents for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers when the Confederation of African Football conducts the draw in Cairo, Egypt. The Confederation of African Football has confirmed that the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will hold from June 19 to July 18 2027, giving Nigeria’s Super Eagles a clear final date for their next title push.
