Netanyahu to meet Trump on Gaza plan December 29

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will meet United States President Donald Trump on December 29 to discuss the next phase of the Gaza ceasefire plan. An Israeli government spokesperson, Shosh Bedrosian, confirmed the date and said the talks will focus on future steps, phases of the plan and a possible international stabilisation force. The meeting will take place in the United States, with Israeli and US media reporting that it is expected to be held either at the White House or at Trump’s Mar a Lago resort in Florida. It will be Netanyahu’s first visit to the US since the Trump administration brokered a ceasefire and hostage release that effectively ended two years of intense fighting in Gaza. Netanyahu has said he wants to use the talks to address the second phase of the US sponsored Gaza plan, including how […]

Israel’s incursion into Syria kills at least 12, including children

At least 12 people, among them children, have been killed after Israel launched a new incursion into Syrian territory in the Damascus countryside. Syrian state media reported that several Israeli soldiers were also wounded in the clashes. The Israeli raid, carried out at dawn, struck the town of Beit Jinn and sent dozens of families fleeing to safer areas. According to the Syrian Arab News Agency, the bodies of at least five Syrians—including two children—were taken to the Golan National Hospital in al-Salam, Quneitra. Israeli drones continued to hover over the area throughout the day, worsening the fear and preventing movement. The Syrian Civil Defence said its teams were unable to enter Beit Jinn to rescue the wounded because the Israeli military was still targeting anything that moved. Israel’s incursions into southern Syria have grown more frequent and more violent […]

Syria’s Jihadist-Turned-President Caps Historic Transformation with White House Visit

Less than a year after a lightning rise to power, Syria’s President Ahmad al-Sharaa visits the White House, marking a dramatic shift from his past as a jihadist fighter to international statesman. The visit, the first by a Syrian head of state, comes as al-Sharaa aims to reshape Syria’s foreign relations and end diplomatic isolation imposed during the Assad regime. Al-Sharaa, formerly an Islamist insurgent who battled US forces in Iraq, later toppled the decades-long regime of Bashar al-Assad through a surprise offensive. He now advocates for lifting US sanctions and seeks American support to push Israel to halt attacks and withdraw from southern Syria. Despite some sanctions lifted after a Saudi-brokered Trump-Al-Sharaa meeting in May, the toughest US measures require congressional sign-off. The young leader is balancing ties between Moscow and Western states, conscious of Russia’s military influence and […]

Iran’s Regional Influence Weakens Amid Setbacks

Over the past two years, Iran’s network of allies across the Middle East has endured significant setbacks. In Syria, the regime of President Bashar al-Assad has collapsed. In Lebanon, Hezbollah was forced to lay down its arms under a United States-brokered ceasefire and now faces mounting pressure to fully disarm. In Yemen, the Houthis were compelled to halt disruptions of maritime traffic through the Red Sea following heavy US bombardments that targeted infrastructure and civilian areas. Adding to the string of losses, an Israeli airstrike on Thursday killed Yemen’s prime minister, Ahmed al-Rahawi, alongside several ministers. These developments have dramatically diminished what was once seen as Iran’s formidable deterrence in the region. Observers warn that Tehran’s influence may shrink further as its position in Iraq grows increasingly precarious. The Iraqi government is under pressure from Washington to curb the power […]
