Obasogie denies match fixing claims after three month suspension
Super Eagles goalkeeper Amas Obasogie has firmly denied allegations of match fixing after his Tanzanian club, Singida Black Stars, handed him a three month suspension. The club announced that he was suspended pending investigation into suspected match manipulation in two games, including a CAF Confederation Cup tie against Flambeau du Centre and a league match against Namungo FC. In a personal statement, Obasogie insisted he had never engaged in match fixing and would never do so, describing the incidents under review as normal football errors, not deliberate acts. He explained that the costly late goal conceded against Namungo, where he spilled a routine free kick and allowed an equaliser, was a genuine mistake that can happen to any goalkeeper.
