Four key Super Eagles players risk suspension ahead Nigeria’s final AFCON 2025 Group C match against Uganda. Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Semi Ajayi and goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali are all one yellow card away from missing the Round of 16.
If Osimhen is booked in the Uganda game, coach Eric Chelle may be forced to start Paul Onuachu as striker in the first knockout match. Lookman, who has scored in both of Nigeria’s games so far, would also be ruled out of the next round if he receives another caution.
Ajayi’s card situation could push Chelle to adjust his back line, possibly turning to Zaidu Sanusi to keep the defence stable. Nwabali, cautioned for time wasting against Tunisia, would be replaced by Francis Uzoho if he picks up a second yellow card.
Nigeria have already beaten Tanzania 2-1 and Tunisia 3-2, and a win against Uganda would give them a perfect nine points in the group. Such a result would confirm top spot in Group C and boost confidence going into the knockout phase.

NAFDAC says the crackdown on manufacturers and distributors of sachet alcohol has already begun, with arrests and seizures recorded across the South East zone. The NAFDAC Zonal Director, South East, Dr Festus Ukadike, disclosed this in an interview in Enugu, adding that the next phase is to mop up remaining sachet alcoholic products still in the market.
