Navy destroys 12 illegal refineries seizes 531500 litres of crude

The Nigerian Navy says it has dismantled 12 illegal refineries and recovered 531500 litres of stolen and illegally refined petroleum products in the first quarter of 2026. The operations were carried out under Operation Delta Sentinel, the new maritime security effort that replaced Operation Delta Sanity II in the Niger Delta. Director of Naval Information Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho said troops also arrested 18 suspects linked to crude oil theft and related maritime crimes between January and March. He explained that the operation includes enhanced surveillance, better intelligence sharing and a quarterly review system to keep pressure on oil thieves.  Navy Rescues 10 from Distressed Vessel in Calabar

The Nigerian Navy successfully rescued 10 crew members—one Cameroonian, one Equatorial Guinean, and eight Nigerians—from the distressed vessel MV SEMA III en route to Calabar from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. According to Naval Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, the rescue took place on Friday, November 7, after a distress call was made. A naval gunboat with a submersible pump reached the scene quickly, evacuated all occupants, and brought them to safety at Forward Operating Base IBAKA. Nigerian Navy Boosts Security with New Ships & Helicopters to Combat Gulf Threats

The Nigerian Navy just strengthened its fight against maritime crime. The service formally added three new ships and three advanced helicopters to its fleet on May 30th. This major upgrade aims to secure Nigeria's waters and boost regional safety.
