The Nigerian Navy successfully rescued 10 crew members—one Cameroonian, one Equatorial Guinean, and eight Nigerians—from the distressed vessel MV SEMA III en route to Calabar from Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. According to Naval Director of Information, Commodore A. Adams-Aliu, the rescue took place on Friday, November 7, after a distress call was made.
A naval gunboat with a submersible pump reached the scene quickly, evacuated all occupants, and brought them to safety at Forward Operating Base IBAKA. The rescue operation received praise from MV SEMA III’s captain for the Navy’s professionalism and rapid response.
Just days earlier, the Navy also saved 11 passengers from a sinking speedboat in Rivers State, demonstrating heightened efforts to ensure regional maritime safety.
Additionally, the Nigerian Navy has intensified anti-crude oil theft operations in the Niger Delta, deactivating multiple illegal refining sites in Delta and Rivers States.
The successful operations highlight the Navy’s commitment to maritime safety, asset protection, and curbing illegal activities in Nigerian waters.

Court rejects FCCPC’s fresh bid to halt airtime lending
A Federal High Court has rejected a fresh attempt by the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission to stop airtime lending services run through major telecom networks. The ruling preserves an earlier interim injunction that protects airtime and data credit providers while a substantive suit on new lending rules is being heard. The case centres on the FCCPC’s 2025 Digital, Electronic, Online or Non Traditional Consumer Lending Regulations, which the commission wants to fully enforce across digital lenders, including Airtime Credit Service providers. Industry group Wireless Application Service Providers Association of Nigeria argues that the rules place heavy and conflicting burdens on telecom based lending services already regulated by the Nigerian Communications Commission.
