Buratai urges united front against insecurity

Former Chief of Army Staff Lt Gen Yusuf Tukur Buratai has called for collective action from all stakeholders to tackle Nigeria’s growing security challenges. He said sustainable nation building is impossible without first addressing insecurity across the country. Buratai spoke in Dutse after receiving an award from the Federal University Dutse during the 2nd International Conference on Nation Building in the 21st Century organised by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. He said the current situation requires close cooperation between government institutions security agencies and citizens. He urged Nigerians to continue supporting the military and other security formations. According to him nation building has many components but the people remain central and their education healthcare and general welfare must be prioritised alongside security. NDLEA arrests 93 year old man and doctor in nationwide drug raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a 93 year old man, a 69 year old medical doctor and several others in a nationwide crackdown on drug cartels. NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy Femi Babafemi said the intelligence led operations were carried out across multiple states. In Abia State, operatives arrested 93 year old Pa Friday Ahukanna Chigbu at his home, where they recovered 7.7kg of cannabis, also known as skunk. He reportedly admitted that he had used the drug for a long time before turning it into a business. At Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, NDLEA officers arrested an Ivorian, Gohouri Michael, with 1.49kg of cocaine. DHQ: Most terrorist fighters driven by fear and money, not belief

The Defence Headquarters says that more than 60 percent of terrorist fighters in Nigeria are not driven by extremist ideology but by fear, coercion and financial incentives. It explained that many of those taking part in insurgent activities were forced to join or lured with promises of money and protection. A statement from DHQ noted that only a minority of the fighters are hardcore ideologues or commanders who are deeply committed to the violent cause. Gunmen Abduct Health Workers In Akure, Police Rescue Victims

Gunmen have attacked a government health facility in the Oke Ijebu area of Akure, Ondo State, and abducted health workers on duty. The incident happened around 2:00 a.m. on Saturday when the armed men stormed the health centre opposite Mega School. Witnesses said the attackers arrived in a large bus, forced their way into the facility, and overpowered those present. Eight killed as terrorists bomb Niger bridge

Eight people have been confirmed dead after terrorists detonated an improvised explosive device along Luma Road in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State. The attack took place in the early hours of Monday.​ The terrorists also blew up a major bridge linking the Luma, Babana and Agwara communities. NDLEA arrests fake pregnancy drug trafficker, real estate CEO in major raids

NDLEA arrests Brazil returnee with cocaine hidden in body and footwear

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a Brazil based Nigerian businessman, Uche Franklin Onyekwere, at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for allegedly smuggling cocaine concealed in his private parts and in the soles of his shoes. Onyekwere was picked up on Thursday, January 29, 2026, during inward clearance of South African Airways passengers arriving from Brazil via Johannesburg, following processed intelligence. A full body scan reportedly indicated illicit drug concealment, after which he was subjected to a strip search. Officials said a large parcel of white powdery substance later confirmed as cocaine was found wrapped around his right thigh, while two more wraps were discovered hidden in the soles of a pair of flat shoes he was wearing.
