I was stereotyped in my early acting years – Actress Bolaji Ogunmola

Nollywood actress Bolaji Ogunmola has opened up about the challenges she faced in her early years in the movie industry, saying she was heavily stereotyped because of her looks. She revealed that producers and directors often judged her by her dark skin and curvy body, boxing her into a narrow range of roles. According to Ogunmola, many filmmakers preferred light‑skinned actresses for lead characters at the time, while she was frequently considered only for supporting or “side chick” roles. “It was almost like they wanted to put me in a box,” she recalled, noting that her body type was used as an excuse to limit the kind of characters she could play. The actress said these stereotypes made it difficult to show her full range as a performer and slowed her journey to more complex, leading roles. Over time, however, […]

Bolaji Ogunmola hails Daniel Etim Effiong’s professional discipline in romantic films

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has hailed her colleague Daniel Etim Effiong for his professionalism and discipline when handling romantic scenes on set. Ogunmola, who has shared steamy on-screen moments with the actor in projects such as “Summer Rain” and “The Bloom After”, said their chemistry is the result of craft, not an off-screen romance. Reacting to social media criticism over a viral kissing clip from their promotional material, she emphasised that Etim Effiong remains highly controlled, respectful and focused whenever they work together. She explained that intimate scenes are carefully planned with consent, rehearsals and a full crew present, stressing that both actors treat them strictly as part of their job. Ogunmola said powerful love stories can be told on screen while still maintaining clear professional boundaries. She dismissed claims that their on-screen passion reflects a real-life affair, […]

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has argued that YouTube was never originally designed as a platform for films, insisting that proper filmmaking is too expensive to be treated lightly. Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Jay On-Air, she said many viewers do not realise the financial risks producers take when they put full movies on the video-sharing site. Ogunmola explained that film is a “very expensive art”, from script development and location costs to equipment, crew and post-production. She noted that some actors now charge between ₦4 million and ₦5 million for just four days on set, before other production expenses are even considered. According to her, many critics who complain about adverts, low budgets or storytelling quality on YouTube films have little idea how much money is tied up in a single project. She maintained that […]
