Bolaji Ogunmola hails Daniel Etim Effiong’s professional discipline in romantic films

Article arrow_drop_down

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has hailed her colleague Daniel Etim Effiong for his professionalism and discipline when handling romantic scenes on set. Ogunmola, who has shared steamy on-screen moments with the actor in projects such as “Summer Rain” and “The Bloom After”, said their chemistry is the result of craft, not an off-screen romance.

Reacting to social media criticism over a viral kissing clip from their promotional material, she emphasised that Etim Effiong remains highly controlled, respectful and focused whenever they work together. She explained that intimate scenes are carefully planned with consent, rehearsals and a full crew present, stressing that both actors treat them strictly as part of their job.

Ogunmola said powerful love stories can be told on screen while still maintaining clear professional boundaries. She dismissed claims that their on-screen passion reflects a real-life affair, insisting that she and Etim Effiong “don’t even talk outside work” beyond what is necessary for production.

The actress also revealed that the backlash over their romantic scenes affected her mental health and made her consider quitting social media at one point. She criticised critics for reducing entire films built around themes like self-love and healing to a few seconds of kissing, ignoring the broader message of the stories.

Previous reports show that Etim Effiong himself has spoken about his approach to intimate scenes, saying he often prays and agrees clear boundaries with his wife before filming. Public commentators and analysts have likewise argued that the pair are simply doing their jobs as actors and that audiences should distinguish between screen roles and real-life relationships.

Ego, inner competition undermine collaborations in Afrobeats – Joeboy

Afrobeats singer Joeboy has decried the growing impact of ego and inner competition on collaborations among Nigerian artists. He said many artistes now approach joint projects with a mindset of rivalry instead of focusing on making timeless music together. According to him, some colleagues only agree to collaborate when they think they will gain more numbers, clout or validation than the other party. Joeboy noted that this attitude makes it difficult to build sincere, long-term partnerships of the kind that once helped push Afrobeats to global prominence. He explained that behind the scenes, a lot of artistes constantly monitor streams, charts and social media buzz, even while publicly preaching unity and “love” in the industry. This quiet comparison culture, he argued, breeds resentment and silently kills the spirit of true collaboration. Despite these challenges, Joeboy maintained that collaborations remain one […]

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Bolaji Ogunmola has argued that YouTube was never originally designed as a platform for films, insisting that proper filmmaking is too expensive to be treated lightly. Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Jay On-Air, she said many viewers do not realise the financial risks producers take when they put full movies on the video-sharing site. Ogunmola explained that film is a “very expensive art”, from script development and location costs to equipment, crew and post-production. She noted that some actors now charge between ₦4 million and ₦5 million for just four days on set, before other production expenses are even considered. According to her, many critics who complain about adverts, low budgets or storytelling quality on YouTube films have little idea how much money is tied up in a single project. She maintained that […]
