The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a viral video claiming there was an ongoing terrorist attack in Abuja, describing it as false and aimed at causing panic. Force Public Relations Officer DCP Anthony Placid said no such incident took place in the Federal Capital Territory and warned that the video was entirely misleading and malicious. He explained that preliminary investigations showed the clip was edited from different online footage to create a fake terror alert designed to incite fear and undermine confidence in security in the nation’s capital. Police operatives have arrested one Pam Joseph in connection with producing and circulating the video, following credible intelligence and digital forensic investigations that linked him to the content. Nigeria’s N2.5trn mall economy hit as Shoprite shuts stores

Nigeria’s mall economy, valued at about N2.5 trillion, has suffered a major setback following the complete shutdown of Shoprite outlets across the country. The popular retail chain, which once served as the main anchor tenant for many shopping malls, had been struggling in recent months with empty shelves and partial closures before finally going dark. Shoprite’s exit leaves a huge gap for mall owners, property developers and smaller retailers who depended on the supermarket’s strong foot traffic to drive sales. Experts say vacancy rates in major malls are likely to rise, while many support businesses such as boutiques, restaurants and service outlets may see lower patronage or be forced to shut down. The closures come after a prolonged period of operational challenges for Shoprite, including high operating costs, supply chain disruptions, naira depreciation and weak consumer purchasing power. Several outlets […]

Court sets March 24 ruling on suit to deregister ADC, Accord, others

A Federal High Court in Abuja has fixed March 24 for its ruling on a suit seeking to compel the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister four political parties over alleged failure to meet constitutional requirements. The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2637/25, was filed by the Incorporated Trustees of the National Forum of Former Legislators, with INEC, the Attorney-General of the Federation, the African Democratic Congress, Accord Party, Zenith Labour Party and Action Alliance listed as defendants.
