Being born again does not erase trauma Funnybone urges church to prioritise mental health

Nigerian comedian Funnybone has called on the church to take mental health more seriously. He said that becoming born again does not automatically erase trauma, pain or emotional struggles, and that many people still need professional help even after spiritual conversion. According to him, faith is important, but it should not be used as a replacement for proper mental health care. He explained that some people continue to battle depression, anxiety and deep emotional wounds while appearing fine on the outside. Funnybone urged religious leaders to create a safe space where people can speak openly about their struggles without fear of being judged. He also encouraged churches to work with mental health professionals when necessary. His message is a reminder that spiritual support and mental health care can work together to help people heal properly.

Appeal court bars INEC from recognising Mark-led ADC congresses

The appeal court has barred the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from recognising congresses organised by the David Mark-led leadership of the African Democratic Congress, ADC. The court said INEC should not take part in or give recognition to any state congresses arranged by committees set up by the party’s caretaker leadership. It held that the responsibility for conducting state congresses belongs to the elected state executive committees of the party, not the national caretaker leadership. The court also ruled that the tenure of the ADC’s state working committees and state executive committees remains valid until properly organised congresses are held and a national convention is conducted. In its ruling, the court said neither the Nigerian Constitution nor the party’s constitution gives the caretaker interim national working committee led by David Mark the power to appoint committees for state congresses. Lawmakers said they would wait for the outcome of the ongoing investigation by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, before taking any further action. The matter came up after Senator Suleiman Kawu, who represents Kano South, asked the Senate to investigate how the agency, which the Presidency says does not exist, was included in the 2026 budget with a N1.3 billion allocation. Kawu said the inclusion of the agency in the budget raised serious concerns about the integrity of the budget process and the role of those who approved it. He wanted the Senate to find out who was responsible for inserting the agency into the budget, whether any money had been released, and if any […]
