President Bola Tinubu has ordered a comprehensive investigation into the so called Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council PFIPC described as a fake federal agency that operated as if it were officially created by government

Tinubu directed the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission ICPC to carry out the probe and submit a detailed report within 30 days. According to a statement on the directive the presidency said the PFIPC was never established by any law presidential instrument or valid government

The statement explained that a Nigerian identified as Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew allegedly posed as the director general of the supposed council and claimed to be a presidential appointee. He is accused of using forged appointment letters and other fake government documents to obtain recognition and benefits

ICPC has been asked to investigate how the alleged fake agency gained access to official platforms and privileges. The probe will cover issues such as the opening of bank accounts in the name of the purported council the use of government letterheads and the claim of diplomatic support including visa facilitation.

Tinubu also directed the commission to look beyond the main suspect and examine the wider network that may have enabled the scheme. Investigators are to identify any institutional or procedural weaknesses that were exploited and recommend reforms to prevent similar cases in future

The presidency said any public officials private individuals or financial institutions found to have supported or benefited from the activities of the fictitious body will face the full weight of the law. The order comes amid wider public concern over how a non existent agency allegedly found its way into government processes and appeared in budget documents.

Almajiri commission says projects are constituency interventions

The National Commission for Almajiri and Out-of-School Children Education has defended the controversial projects listed in its 2026 budget. The commission said the projects are constituency interventions and were not meant to replace its core education mandate. These included roads, solar street lights, ambulances and dental equipment in some states. The commission was created to help reduce the number of out of school children and support Almajiri education. Critics say the new projects do not align with that role and could weaken the agency’s main mission. He questioned how an agency that was allegedly created by one person could be assigned a budget code and funding if proper checks were followed. He said agencies should have a legal basis before they are allowed to receive public money. According to him the executive normally proposes a new agency before the Attorney General and the National Assembly review and approve it. Lawal also asked how the PFIPC budget line passed through the usual approval process if the body did not legally exist. He noted that ministries departments and agencies normally defend their budgets during legislative hearings […]
