Iran Players Honour School Strike Victims Before Nigeria Match

Iran’s national football team has paid tribute to victims of a deadly strike on a school by staging a silent protest before their friendly match against Nigeria. The game, played in Belek, Turkey, was Iran’s first outing since the wider Middle East conflict began. As the national anthem played, the Iranian players stood in a line wearing black armbands and holding children’s schoolbags in their hands. In front of them on the pitch, more schoolbags were laid out to symbolise the pupils who lost their lives. The gesture was in memory of the children and teachers killed when a school in the southern Iranian city of Minab was hit by a strike on February 28. Officials in Iran say at least 170 people, most of them schoolgirls, died in the attack. Iran has blamed the United States and Israel for […]

Senegal Parade AFCON Trophy In France After Losing Title

Senegal have paraded the Africa Cup of Nations trophy at the Stade de France in Paris, even though the team have been stripped of their 2025 title. The event took place on Saturday before a friendly match against Peru, in front of thousands of Senegalese fans living in France. The Confederation of African Football had ruled earlier in March that Senegal forfeited the AFCON final after several players walked off the pitch in protest over a penalty decision against Morocco. CAF converted Senegal’s 1–0 extra time win into a 3–0 default victory for hosts Morocco and officially awarded them the trophy. Despite the ruling, the Senegalese Football Federation maintains that the team are still the true champions of Africa. The federation went ahead with the parade in Paris to honour the players and share the moment with supporters. Senegal have […]

Henderson Defends Ben White After Wembley Boos

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has backed Ben White after the Arsenal defender was booed by some fans at Wembley. White was jeered when he came on as a substitute and again after scoring in England’s 1–1 friendly draw with Uruguay on Friday. It was White’s first England appearance since he left the 2022 World Cup squad in Qatar, a departure officially described as being for personal reasons. Reports later suggested there had been a dispute with then assistant coach Steve Holland, which fuelled debate around his absence from the national team. Henderson, who has himself been booed by England fans in the past, said White should not take the reaction too personally. He noted that some supporters may not fully understand the background and may be influenced by media narratives that are not always accurate. The midfielder stressed that the […]

Togo held by Guinea after late collapse

Senegal refuses to return trophy to Morocco

Late Bos strike gives Australia 1–0 win over Cameroon

Jordan Bos scored an 85th-minute winner as Australia laboured to a 1–0 victory over Cameroon in a low-key friendly at Stadium Australia in Sydney. The Feyenoord midfielder pounced late to give the Socceroos a much-needed morale boost as they fine-tune preparations for the 2026 World Cup. Chances were scarce in a cagey first half played on a slippery pitch, with both sides struggling for rhythm and creativity. Australia, who had lost 1–0 to Venezuela and 3–0 to Colombia in the previous international window, again found it difficult to break down a young, rebuilding Cameroon team. Coach Tony Popovic used the FIFA Series 2026 match to assess several new faces, handing senior debuts to 18-year-old Colorado Rapids defender Lucas Herrington and Poland-based striker Deni Juric. The pair looked composed early on as Australia pressed for an opening but could not turn […]

Nigeria edge South Africa in Super Over as Zimbabwe smash records

Nigeria’s U 19 women’s team pulled off a dramatic one run win over South Africa in a Super Over on Matchday 9 of the Patricia Kambarami Cup, part of the Nigeria Invitational T20i Tournament. The hosts kept their campaign alive thanks to a captain’s performance from Lucky Piety. South Africa chose to bat first but slipped to 18 for 3 after six overs. They recovered through captain Mieke Van Voorst, who anchored the innings with 69 from 47 balls, with late support from Siphokuhle Masilela, who added 20, to post a competitive 133 for 7 from 20 overs. Nigeria started their chase slowly and had only 47 runs on the board at the halfway stage. Piety then seized control, smashing 66 from 35 balls, including a crucial 24 run over, to drag Nigeria back into the contest and eventually level […]

Maguire says Amorim will succeed elsewhere despite Man United struggles

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire has reflected on Rúben Amorim’s turbulent spell at Old Trafford, saying the Portuguese manager’s ideas simply did not click at the club despite his belief that Amorim will enjoy major success in the future. In an interview with The Guardian, Maguire praised Amorim as a talented coach and refused to criticise him personally. He said he believes Amorim will go on to have an amazing career and win many matches at his next club. Maguire admitted, however, that Amorim’s time at United fell short of expectations. He said things did not work out as hoped and stressed that the players must also take a lot of responsibility for the disappointing results under the former Sporting CP boss. During Amorim’s tenure, United struggled for consistency in the Premier League and domestic cups. His tactical approach and […]

Chelle puts 22 Super Eagles through first full Antalya training

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has conducted his first full training session with 22 players in Antalya, Turkey, as preparations intensify for international friendlies against Iran and Jordan. The workout took place at the Bellis Deluxe Hotel sports complex on Wednesday evening. The camp was strengthened by a wave of late arrivals, with captain Wilfred Ndidi becoming the 22nd player to join the squad. His arrival followed that of reigning CAF African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman and other Europe based stars, leaving centre back Calvin Bassey as the major absentee after he pulled out with a back injury. Wednesday’s session, which started at 4:00pm local time (2:00pm Nigerian time), began with intensive recovery work to ease travel fatigue. The focus then shifted to tactical drills as Chelle and his assistants started shaping the team for Friday’s clash […]
