Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti has said he remains relaxed about Neymar’s availability for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite the 34-year-old forward suffering a Grade 2 calf injury that will sideline him for two to three weeks.
The injury setback came at a time when the 2026 World Cup kicks off in exactly two weeks, with Brazil’s opening match against Morocco scheduled for June 13 in New Jersey. Initially thought to be a minor issue of swelling, Neymar was officially diagnosed with the Grade 2 calf injury on Thursday.
“We expect Neymar in the first World Cup match against Morocco; if he can’t make it, we’ll wait for the second game,” Ancelotti said in Saturday’s press conference. “We’re not swapping anyone out; the chosen players are these 26, and these 26 will play in the World Cup.”
Ancelotti most recently left Neymar out of the March international window due to fitness concerns after the forward underwent knee surgery earlier in his career. Despite the injury setback, the Italian coach has been adamant since selecting Neymar to his World Cup roster two weeks ago that the former Barcelona star will be a valuable asset this summer.
“Neymar is not at 100% and therefore he is not on the list,” Ancelotti stated bluntly at the time when he initially left Neymar off rosters due to injury setbacks. However, things are different this go-around, as Ancelotti somewhat-surprisingly selected Neymar to his World Cup roster for the first time since 2023.
Ancelotti emphasized that Neymar retains the full support of his colleagues, making his potential inclusion a boost for squad morale. The Italian coach noted, “I know full well that Neymar is much loved, not only by the public but by the players. This is also a factor because we have to consider the atmosphere that will surround Neymar’s call-up.”
The Brazilian league has ended, and Neymar has some vacation time before the final squad is confirmed. Ancelotti has full confidence that those who are selected will be ready for the event, stating, “We are working to arrive at the World Cup in the best possible condition. We are on the right track.”

Govt: Accountability Is Collective Duty, Not Just Celebrities
Government officials and civic leaders across Nigeria are emphasizing that accountability remains a collective duty shared by all citizens, not merely the responsibility of celebrities and public figures who vocally demand transparency from elected leaders. The call for shared accountability comes as Nigerian society increasingly witnesses high-profile public figures, including celebrities, using their platforms to demand government transparency and answerability for public projects and services. While these voices have amplified public discourse, officials stress that ordinary citizens must also actively participate in governance oversight. Without a clear understanding of their civic duties, citizens are less likely to engage in political processes actively and hold their leaders accountable. The Federal Government recently launched the "My Nigeria, My Responsibility" campaign, calling for patriotism as an active verb expressed through personal values and collective civic engagement. The Constitution of the Federal Republic of […]

Norwegian Football Federation Asks FIFA to Probe Trump Peace Prize
The Norwegian Football Federation (NFF) has asked FIFA's ethics committee to investigate the world football governing body's award of a peace prize to US President Donald Trump, arguing that the decision breached FIFA's political neutrality rules. The NFF announced on Tuesday that it formally requested the ethics committee to look into the circumstances surrounding the award, which was given to Trump during the World Cup 2026 draw in Washington D.C. on December 6, 2025. The NFF President Lise Klaveness said the decision broke FIFA's rules on political neutrality as Trump is a sitting political leader. "We do not think it's part of FIFA's mandate to give such a prize. We think we have a Nobel Institute that does that job independently already," Klaveness stated during a roundtable discussion with international media. "We think it's important for football federations, confederations, and […]

Full List: FIFA New Rules Ahead of 2026 World Cup
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has announced nine major rule changes that will be implemented during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which kicks off on June 11 across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The amendments aim to tackle discrimination, cut time-wasting, enhance match tempo, and improve both player and fan experience. 1. Red Cards for Covering Mouths During Confrontations A player who conceals their mouth with their hand, arm, or shirt during confrontational moments will now receive a red card. This rule is designed to prevent players from hiding their lips during racially abusive exchanges, making it easier for referees to identify and punish discriminatory behavior. However, players who cover their mouths during casual, friendly exchanges with teammates from opposing teams will not face penalties. 2. Red Card for Protesting by Leaving the Field Any player who exits […]
