Lagos DSVA: Simi cannot be prosecuted without evidence

The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has said it cannot prosecute singer Simi over her resurfaced 2012 tweets without concrete evidence or testimony from alleged victims.​ Executive Secretary of the agency, Lola Vivour Adeniyi, explained on Channels Television’s Morning Brief that the DSVA has a duty to begin a preliminary review of the matter because of the public outcry. She stressed, however, that the law requires statements or cooperation from survivors before any case can move forward.​ Vivour Adeniyi said it would be very difficult to take formal legal action against the artist in the absence of a complainant.
