Actress Moyo Lawal has denied claims that she ordered the arrest of a social media user over a viral AI‑generated picture of herself.
The image, which darkened her complexion, went viral and triggered mockery and bullying, with some users accusing her of bleaching her skin. One X (Twitter) user, ScoobyDoo, mocked her over the picture and later claimed he was arrested and detained at Area F Police Station in Ikeja because of his comments.
In a statement shared online, Moyo dismissed the allegation as false, insisting she would not strip anyone of their fundamental rights over a joke image.
She wrote that she “did not arrest any rat,” adding that if she ever chose to arrest anyone, “the animal or animals will rot away in prison for the rest of their lives,” stressing that oppression is not her style of defense.
Questioning why she would arrest someone “over an AI generated April fool joke image representing me falsely for laughs,” Moyo said she is tired of constant false narratives and online obsession about her. She urged fans and the public to always ask for facts when confronted with “foolish rumors from rats,” warning that social media clout often turns “humans to animals.”

Democracy Day is a national public holiday in Nigeria celebrated annually on June 12 to commemorate the restoration of democracy in 1999. Until 2018, it was celebrated on May 29, but President Muhammadu Buhari changed the date to honor Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola (MKO Abiola), whose courage, resilience, and commitment to the will of people remain enduring symbols of Nigeria's democratic journey.
