The Nigeria Police Force has reopened the Peoples Democratic Party national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, handing control to a faction backed by Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike.
Factional National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed announced the development in a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed on Saturday in Abuja.
He said both the secretariat and the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, were unsealed in line with valid court orders. According to him, the properties have now been formally handed over to the Mohammed led National Working Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu recognised as National Secretary.
Mohammed praised the police for what he described as professionalism and respect for the rule of law, saying the action showed commitment to constitutional order and due process.
He warned that the party would not tolerate any obstruction, disruption or breach of peace at the secretariat and stressed that security agencies were ready to act against anyone who violates the law.
Mohammed urged aggrieved members to sheath their swords and embrace unity, insisting that recent internal disputes had been effectively resolved and that the party must now move forward together.
He also thanked PDP leaders and stakeholders, particularly Wike, describing his support as invaluable to the current leadership.
However, the Tanimu Turaki led faction condemned the unsealing of the secretariat, calling it contemptuous.
Spokesman Ini Ememobong argued that the judgment relied on by the police had already been appealed and that all parties, including security agencies, were aware.
He said unsealing the buildings amounted to tampering with the res the subject of the dispute and could render any eventual Court of Appeal judgment ineffective.
Ememobong accused those behind the move of undermining the law and suggested that the police action showed partisan interference in an internal party matter.
He urged PDP members to remain peaceful and avoid any actions that might lead to a breakdown of public order, promising that lawful steps would be taken to protect what he called the rights of genuine party members.
Ememobong expressed confidence that the crisis would eventually pass and that democratic norms would prevail, telling supporters to endure with hope despite the current tensions.
The police had earlier sealed Wadata Plaza and Legacy House in November 2025 after clashes between rival factions at the party headquarters.
