Police unseal PDP secretariat as factions clash over control

The Nigeria Police Force has reopened the Peoples Democratic Party national secretariat, Wadata Plaza in Abuja, handing control to a faction backed by Minister of the FCT Nyesom Wike. Factional National Chairman Abdulrahman Mohammed announced the development in a statement issued by National Publicity Secretary Jungudo Mohammed on Saturday in Abuja. He said both the secretariat and the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, were unsealed in line with valid court orders. INEC Recognises Abdulrahman Mohammed As PDP National Chairman

The Independent National Electoral Commission has recognised Abdulrahman Mohammed as the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party. The recognition follows recent court decisions and the outcome of the party’s latest convention in Abuja. INEC’s position aligns with a Federal High Court judgment which voided the party’s November 16, 2025 convention in Ibadan and affirmed the Abdulrahman led structure. The commission subsequently updated its records to reflect Mohammed and his team as the authorised PDP leadership. At the recent PDP convention, delegates endorsed Abdulrahman Mohammed and a 22 member National Working Committee through a consensus arrangement. Lamido says Wike backed caretaker holds key to PDP reconciliation

Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido says genuine reconciliation in the Peoples Democratic Party depends on leaders accepting the Nyesom Wike backed National Caretaker Committee.He made the appeal during a Ramadan Iftar with PDP executives and members in his hometown, Bamaina. Lamido described the caretaker committee, led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, as the only stabilising party structure recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission.He argued that, without first accepting this body, ongoing peace talks between rival camps would not produce lasting unity.
