Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Buba Marwa has called for closing key intelligence gaps as a central step in tackling Nigeria’s worsening insecurity. He spoke at the Army War College Nigeria Interagency Seminar in Abuja, where he warned that the country faces a complex mix of threats, including insurgency and terrorism in the North East, farmer herder clashes in the North West and North Central, secessionist agitations in the South East, and organised crime and drug trafficking in the South South and South West. Marwa said criminals are becoming more sophisticated, using technology, government systems and cross border networks, and insisted that security can no longer be seen as only a military or police issue. ADC crisis deepens as David Mark‑led NWC, state chairmen clash over party control

The leadership crisis rocking the African Democratic Congress has worsened as a bloc of state chairmen has openly clashed with the David Mark‑led National Working Committee over control of the party. The 25 chairmen, who say they constitute the core of the party’s National Executive Committee, announced in Abuja that they have collectively assumed interim leadership of the ADC. Their move follows the Independent National Electoral Commission’s decision to delist Mark and National Secretary Rauf Aregbesola from its records and to stop recognising any of the contending factions pending a court ruling. INEC’s action, based on a Court of Appeal judgment in the leadership dispute between Mark and Nafiu Bala Gombe, effectively left the party without an officially recognised national chairman. Led by Abia chairman Don Norman Obinna, the state chairmen rejected both the Mark coalition and the Gombe camp, […]

ADC NEC takes over party administration, appoints interim leadership

The National Executive Council of the African Democratic Congress has announced that it is taking over the administration of the party and putting in place an interim leadership structure. The move follows a prolonged leadership tussle and multiple court cases over who legally controls the ADC ahead of the 2027 elections. At an emergency NEC meeting in Abuja, key stakeholders resolved to sideline the warring factions and mandated a caretaker team to manage the party’s affairs until a national convention is held. Leaders aligned with former interim chairman David Mark and other elders said the step became necessary to stabilise the party and restore confidence among members and aspirants. The interim leadership has been tasked with organising a credible national convention, reconciling aggrieved blocs and ensuring strict adherence to the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act. NEC members also warned […]

The Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria has demanded a public apology from Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike over his controversial remark about Channels TV anchor Seun Okinbaloye. During a recent live programme, Wike had said that if he could break his TV screen he would “shoot” Okinbaloye over the journalist’s analysis of Nigeria’s democracy, a comment that sparked outrage among media stakeholders.
