Fed Govt says FAAC deductions are lawful not missing funds

The Federal Government has dismissed claims that revenues in the Federation Account are being diverted through illegal deductions. It said all deductions made before sharing funds at the Federation Account Allocation Committee are lawful and backed by existing fiscal rules.​ Minister of State for Finance Taiwo Oyedele explained in a statement that recent public comments were based on a wrong reading of a World Bank analysis. SSANU rejects fake 30 percent deal issues strike ultimatum

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities has dismissed claims that it has reached a wage agreement with the Federal Government and has reaffirmed its threat to begin an indefinite strike from April 30 if talks are not concluded.​ In a communiqué issued after a Special National Executive Council meeting held on April 18 in Abuja, the union said renegotiation of its agreement with government is still ongoing despite seven meetings since October 2024. NDLEA busts syndicate hiding cocaine and loud in food flasks to UK

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has uncovered a drug trafficking syndicate that hid cocaine and loud in food flasks and snack packs for shipment to the United Kingdom and Nigeria.​ The agency said its officers at the export shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, intercepted 12 large parcels of cocaine concealed in the false bottom of food flasks on April 9. The consignment, weighing 2.80 kilograms, was destined for the UK on a Virgin Atlantic flight.​ Two cargo agents, Ama Obinna Ufeim, 33, and Ogabi Monday Akorede, 39, were arrested at the airport. Police bust job scam kidnap gang luring victims to Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has uncovered and arrested a kidnap syndicate that lured victims from Lagos and other states to Rivers with fake job offers. Police said the abduction of one Chukwudekwu Emmanuel, a Lagos resident kidnapped on 17 February 2026 in Etche Local Government Area, led to the breakthrough. Operatives attached to the Emohua area, using technology driven strategies introduced by Inspector General of Police Olatunji Rilwan Disu, arrested three key suspects on 14 April 2026. Nigeria’s off grid power developers have secured about 83 million dollars in new International Finance Corporation backed financing under the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale Up programme. The deals signal rising investor confidence in the country’s distributed energy market. The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the 2026 World Bank Group and IMF Spring Meetings. The funding will support an initial group of Nigerian renewable energy companies deploying mini grids and solar home systems in communities with little or no grid access. Soldiers arrest 15 suspected oil thieves at Dangote Refinery

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 15 suspected oil thieves around the Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State.​ According to an operational report made available to the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday in Abuja, the suspects were arrested in the early hours of the day by troops of Headquarters 9 Brigade working with 65 Battalion.
