PDP Govs Slam ADC Over Zamfara Meeting Criticism

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has defended its recent meeting in Zamfara State, accusing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of politicising insecurity instead of showing empathy to victims of bandit attacks. The ADC had criticised the PDP for holding a political meeting in Zamfara, only days after dozens of residents were killed by bandits. In a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party accused the PDP governors of being insensitive and urged President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Zamfara. ADC said: “Instead of rallying around their colleague to help stop the killings, PDP governors staged a political show in a state still mourning its dead. Their pictures in ceremonial attire, smiling for the camera, were insensitive.” Responding, the Director-General of the PDP Governors’ Forum, Emmanuel Agbo, described ADC’s comments as “irresponsible,” […]

ASUU Rejects FG Loan Offer, Calls It a Greek Gift

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter, has rejected the federal government’s loan proposal for lecturers, describing it as a “Greek gift.” During a special congress held on campus Tuesday, the union said its members were not interested in loans but in the fulfillment of existing welfare agreements. Speaking to members after a solidarity march from the university’s main gate, the UNILAG Branch Chairman, Prof. Idowu Kehinde, stressed that the government should focus on paying lecturers their entitlements rather than offering loans. “The loans are to be guaranteed by our union. This is unnecessary. University governing councils can already provide loans to staff based on their conditions of service. If we are paid a living wage and our allowances are settled as agreed, no one will need to borrow money. Let the government do the […]

Tinubu gov’t desperate after Japan visa denial

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of spreading misleading information after Japan denied creating a special visa category for Nigerians. Japan’s foreign ministry clarified on Monday that it had no plans to introduce visas specifically for Nigerians or any African nationals. The statement read:“There are no plans to promote the acceptance of immigrants or issue special visas for residents of African countries. Reports suggesting otherwise are not true.” This directly contradicted an earlier announcement by Abiodun Oladunjoye, Director of Information at the State House. On August 22, Oladunjoye claimed that Japanese authorities had agreed to introduce a special visa for highly skilled Nigerians interested in working in Kisarazu, and that artisans willing to upskill would also benefit. Reacting to the denial, ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, criticised the federal government, saying it was desperate […]

Ronaldo & Rodriguez spotlight Saudi double standard

Cristiano Ronaldo and his fiancée, Georgina Rodriguez, have lived together in Saudi Arabia for more than two years, raising questions about the country’s shifting social rules. The Portuguese star, 40, and Spanish model, 31, recently announced their engagement, drawing attention not just to Rodriguez’s huge diamond ring but also to the fact they have long shared a home despite not being married. In conservative Saudi Arabia, where cohabitation outside marriage is technically illegal, such an arrangement would normally be impossible. But while authorities now largely turn a blind eye for foreigners, Saudis themselves still face restrictions. “Conservative rules are still on the books, but they are applied more flexibly today,” said Sebastian Sons of the German think tank CARPO. Social change for foreigners, limits for locals Foreign couples, including Muslims, are now allowed to stay in hotels or live together […]
