Dino Melaye Faces Court Over Alleged ₦509.6m Tax Evasion

A former senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Dino Melaye, has been dragged before a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Magistrate Court over alleged evasion of ₦509.6 million in personal income taxes for 2023 and 2024. According to filings, the FCT Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS) accused Mr. Melaye of failing to pay his assessed Personal Income Tax of ₦234.9 million (2023) and ₦274.7 million (2024), totaling ₦509,608,000.00. Past Underpayments In addition to the recent assessments, FCT-IRS said Mr. Melaye underpaid his taxes in 2020, 2021, and 2022. In 2019, while still in the Senate, he declared ₦1,258,334 in income but paid only ₦85,000.08 in tax. In 2020, he declared ₦1,383,334 but remitted just ₦100,000.08. US Jails Osun Monarch for COVID-19 Relief Fraud

A United States court has sentenced Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, to 56 months in prison for participating in a multimillion-dollar COVID-19 relief fraud scheme. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Ohio confirmed that Oloyede, 62, who holds dual citizenship in Nigeria and the United States, was sentenced on August 26 by District Judge Christopher A. Boyko. NECO sets strict CBT rules as exams go digital Nov 2025

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has announced that beginning with the November/December 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, all exams will be conducted strictly through Computer-Based Testing (CBT), ending the era of paper-and-pencil assessments. The move comes as part of the Federal Government’s plan to fully adopt CBT for both school-based and external SSCEs by 2026, using both private and public-owned centres. In a statement on Wednesday, NECO confirmed that arrangements have been completed for the migration to CBT and called on qualified CBT centre operators nationwide to apply for accreditation. Technical and system requirements To be approved, centres must meet rigorous standards.
