A late-night fire outbreak on Monday in Ibadan was swiftly contained by the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, preventing what could have been a devastating disaster. The incident occurred around 9:28 pm at No. 23B Iyaganku Crescent, when a generator house in a private residence went up in flames. The alert was raised through the Security Trust Fund’s 615 emergency line, prompting an immediate response from state fire officers led by Acting Chief Fire Superintendent (ACFS) Bamidele Samsudeen. Court Restrains PENGASSAN From Cutting Gas Supply to Dangote Refinery Amid Nationwide Strike Threat

The National Industrial Court, Abuja, has restrained the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) from cutting crude and gas supply to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE. The interim order, delivered by Justice Emmanuel Subilim, followed an ex-parte application filed by the refinery’s lawyers, led by Ogwu Onoja (SAN). The court barred PENGASSAN, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) from halting supply or embarking on any action that could cripple refinery operations. Justice Subilim ruled that the balance of convenience was in favor of Dangote Refinery, warning that the planned strike would “irreparably damage” its operations and disrupt essential services to the Nigerian public. The matter was adjourned to October 13, with the interim order valid for […]

Boko Haram Attack in Borno: Two Dead, Palace Burnt

Armed Boko Haram fighters on Monday night invaded Kirawa, a border community in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, killing one civilian and abducting another. The insurgents also set fire to several houses, shops, and the palace of the District Head, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abubakar. Residents fled into neighbouring Cameroonian communities for safety. Local vigilantes, including members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and hunters, helped repel the assault, reportedly killing one of the attackers. Kirawa has been a frequent target of Boko Haram. Just three days earlier, insurgents ambushed travellers along the Kirawa-Pulka road, killing a CJTF member and burning six vehicles. Senator Ali Ndume, who represents Southern Borno, confirmed Tuesday’s incident and expressed deep concern over the renewed violence.“The attacks are frustrating, especially for many resilient IDPs who only recently returned to their ancestral homes with the […]

Ndume Urges Tinubu to Act Like a Dictator to End PENGASSAN–Dangote Refinery Dispute

Senator Ali Ndume has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action — even if it means acting like a dictator — to resolve the escalating standoff between the Dangote Refinery and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN). Ndume, who represents Borno South, made the call on Monday during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time. “The best thing is for the president to sign an executive order calling them off. He has the right to dissolve them. In this case, I don’t mind if he acts like a dictator because some situations require very drastic measures,” he said. The crisis began after PENGASSAN accused the Dangote Refinery of unlawfully sacking 800 workers for joining the union. On Saturday, the association directed its members nationwide to down tools, calling the move a violation of Nigeria’s […]

Abbas made the remarks in Abuja during “An Evening with 004,” an informal youth engagement organised by the Office of the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Leke Baiyewu, the Speaker said the Federal Government’s ongoing efforts to block revenue leakages and strengthen tax compliance will allow for more robust funding of critical projects and services. “One thing I want you to go home with is that Mr President and the National Assembly have crossed a major hurdle that has been bedevilling our budgets — paucity of revenue,” Abbas told […]

Nigeria Gains Global Recognition for Tax-ID

Nigeria has achieved a significant milestone in its digital trade transformation with the global registration of its Tax Identification Number (Tax-ID) and the approval of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) as the country’s official Peppol Authority. The achievement, supported by the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), registers Nigeria’s Tax-ID under the ISO/IEC 6523 International Coding System, granting Nigerian individuals and businesses recognition in cross-border transactions. Peppol—a globally accepted framework for the secure and standardised exchange of electronic documents—is widely used in Europe, Asia, and Australia. With FIRS as Nigeria’s Peppol Authority, local businesses can now connect seamlessly to this international network, ensuring faster payments, reduced administrative costs, and improved competitiveness. According to FIRS, the move will simplify compliance for taxpayers while boosting investor confidence. “This milestone simplifies compliance for taxpayers, enables smoother cross-border transactions, and strengthens confidence in Nigeria […]

Nigeria Grants Visa-Free Entry to St. Kitts & Nevis

Nigeria has granted visa-free entry to citizens of St. Kitts & Nevis, effective September 26, 2025, marking the first time the policy extends beyond Africa. The waiver, which applies to ordinary, official, and diplomatic passports, is aimed at strengthening trade, investment, and cultural ties between the two nations. Until now, Nigeria’s visa-free access largely covered ECOWAS states, with Cameroon and Chad as the only non-ECOWAS African countries enjoying the privilege. The development follows the Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit (AACIS ’25) held in Abuja earlier this year, organised by Aquarian Consult Limited (ACL). ACL’s Managing Director, Aisha Maina, said: “This visa waiver is more than diplomacy; it is about opening doors for trade, investment, and cultural exchange. At ACL, we are proud to have played a role in turning dialogue into action.” Diplomatic ties between Nigeria and St. Kitts & Nevis have […]
