France has confirmed its first case of Ebola in the current outbreak, and the case is the first detected outside Africa.
The patient is a doctor who recently returned from a humanitarian mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the outbreak is still ongoing. French health officials said the doctor was quickly admitted to a specialist hospital and placed in isolation.
Authorities said the patient is receiving proper care and that contact tracing is already under way. They also said the risk of wider spread in France remains low because the case was identified quickly.
The outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has already caused a large number of infections and deaths. Health workers there continue to work under difficult conditions as they try to contain the virus.
Ebola is a serious and often deadly disease, but health officials say fast detection, isolation, and monitoring of contacts are the best ways to limit transmission. France says all required safety measures were activated as soon as the case was confirmed.

Dangote Refinery denies petrol export and re-import claims
Dangote Petroleum Refinery has denied claims that its petrol is being exported to Togo and then brought back into Nigeria. The company said the allegation is false and does not reflect its business operations. It explained that the claims are not supported by trade records, commercial logic, or its normal supply process. According to the refinery, its sales contracts do not allow the resale or re-importation of its products into Nigeria. The company said this rule is part of its standard compliance system. Dangote Refinery also said the alleged trade route would not make economic sense. It noted that shipping fuel from Nigeria to Lomé and back into Nigeria would add extra logistics costs that would make such a plan unprofitable. The company said no rational producer would spend additional money on shipping, storage, financing and handling only for the […]

State police debate advances in Senate
Nigeria’s debate over state police has moved forward after President Bola Tinubu sent a constitutional amendment bill to the Senate. The proposal seeks to create a legal framework for state police as part of wider efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s security system. Lawmakers say the plan could help states respond faster to local security challenges. The bill was read in the Senate and referred to the Constitution Review Committee for further work. The committee is expected to examine the proposal and report back to the Senate before any final decision is made. Supporters of state police say the current federal policing structure is no longer enough to handle the country’s growing security problems. They believe giving states more control over policing could improve response time and intelligence gathering. However, the proposal is still subject to more legislative steps. For the bill […]

Russia says nuclear weapons are key to preventing global war
Russia has said nuclear weapons remain the main shield against a possible global war. The comment came from the Kremlin amid growing concerns about global insecurity and a new arms race. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the world’s security system is weakening and that nuclear deterrence is now the only thing preventing a wider war. Speaking in Moscow at a foreign policy forum, Peskov said the current international situation is becoming more unstable. He said nuclear weapons are still the strongest guarantee against a global conflict, even though they do not stop regional wars. His remarks come as tension remains high between Russia and the West. The last nuclear arms control treaty between Russia and the United States expired in February, leaving no replacement agreement in place. Russia has repeatedly defended its nuclear policy as a way to protect national […]

US waives Iran sanctions as Trump warns Tehran
The United States has waived sanctions on Iran for 60 days following the first round of talks linked to a new peace agreement. The waiver is part of an early step meant to ease tensions and support the talks. It allows Tehran to resume limited oil sales and receive payments during the 60-day period. US President Donald Trump said he would take action if Iran fails to respect the terms of the deal. He warned that Washington would respond if Tehran does not keep its side of the agreement. The move marks a temporary shift in US policy toward Iran and comes as both sides test the fragile peace process.

UN Report Alleges Israel Targeted Palestinian Children
A United Nations commission of inquiry has accused Israel of deliberately targeting Palestinian children during its military operations in Gaza, alleging actions that may constitute genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes under international law. In a newly released report, the commission stated that Israeli authorities and security forces were responsible for acts that caused death, severe injuries, and psychological trauma to large numbers of Palestinian children. The report further claims that such actions continued even after a ceasefire agreement was reached in Gaza in October 2025. According to the commission, there are reasonable grounds to believe that the harm inflicted on children forms part of a broader strategy aimed at weakening the future of the Palestinian population by targeting its younger generation. The findings were issued by the Independent International Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory and […]

Trump Welcomes Colombia Election Result
Former US President Donald Trump has welcomed preliminary results from Colombia’s presidential run-off election, predicting stronger ties between Washington and Bogotá after early vote counts placed conservative candidate Abelardo de la Espriella ahead of his rival. According to the initial tally released after Sunday’s vote, de la Espriella secured a narrow lead over left-wing contender Iván Cepeda. The margin separating the two candidates was less than one percentage point, making it one of the closest presidential races in Colombia’s recent history. Despite the preliminary outcome, Cepeda has not conceded defeat. He has called for patience while election authorities complete the verification and cross-checking process, which is expected to take several days before final results are confirmed. Trump, who publicly supported de la Espriella during the campaign, expressed confidence in the result and said he anticipated a significant improvement in relations […]
