Invité de TV5Monde, Nathaniel Olympio, premier porte-parole du Front « Touche pas à ma Constitution », a vivement dénoncé la situation des détenus politiques au Togo. L’opposant accuse les autorités togolaises d’avoir instauré un système marqué par les arrestations arbitraires et le recul de l’État de droit.
Dans son intervention, Nathaniel Olympio affirme que la détention politique est devenue, selon lui, un outil utilisé pour réduire au silence les voix critiques du pouvoir. Il estime à environ soixante-dix le nombre de personnes actuellement emprisonnées pour des raisons politiques dans le pays.
Parmi les cas évoqués, il cite notamment celui de Mme Gnakadé, ancienne ministre de la Défense, celui de Jean-Paul Oumou, arrêté à son retour de la diaspora alors qu’il était en vacances au Togo, ainsi que celui du poète Sokpor Sitsopé Honoré, également connu sous le pseudonyme Affectio. Selon Nathaniel Olympio, ce dernier aurait été de nouveau arrêté récemment après avoir pris des photos d’un chantier de canalisation des eaux de pluie.
L’opposant estime que ces affaires illustrent un climat de restriction des libertés publiques et de répression contre les personnes exprimant des opinions critiques.
Nathaniel Olympio a également accusé les autorités de ne pas respecter certaines décisions judiciaires. Il affirme que des magistrats auraient ordonné la libération de certains détenus politiques sans que ces décisions ne soient appliquées. Selon lui, le maintien en détention de plusieurs opposants relèverait davantage de décisions politiques que judiciaires.
Il a aussi critiqué la position de la Communauté économique des États de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO), estimant que l’organisation régionale ne fait pas suffisamment pression sur les autorités togolaises malgré plusieurs décisions de justice rendues en faveur de certains détenus.
Face à cette situation, Nathaniel Olympio appelle à une mobilisation populaire plus forte pour défendre les libertés publiques et les droits politiques. Il reconnaît toutefois que la peur liée aux violences et aux répressions passées limite les capacités de mobilisation d’une partie de la population.
Concernant l’opposition togolaise, il affirme que malgré certaines divergences entre partis et mouvements politiques, les différentes composantes partagent des revendications communes. Il annonce également des initiatives conjointes dans les prochaines semaines afin de démontrer une volonté d’unité d’action face au contexte politique actuel.

WHO reassures Tenerife over virus cruise ship

Le CNCC autorisé à manifester à Akassimé
Le ministère de l’Administration territoriale a autorisé la tenue d’un rassemblement politique prévu ce samedi 9 mai 2026 sur le terrain d’Akassimé, dans la commune du Golfe 4 à Lomé. Le Togo accélère ses investissements routiers
Le gouvernement togolais augmente fortement ses investissements publics dans les secteurs des infrastructures, des transports et des travaux publics.
