Galatasaray make €1.5m on special Osimhen collector’s boxes

Article arrow_drop_down

Turkish champions Galatasaray have raked in around €1.5m from the sale of special Victor Osimhen collector’s boxes created to celebrate the Nigerian striker’s blockbuster move to the club. The limited edition package, branded the “Solo Il Gala Osimhen Box,” was launched shortly after his €75m transfer from Napoli.

Each box is priced at about €215 and includes a specially designed Osimhen jersey exclusive to the series, his signature protective face mask in club colours and a themed scarf. Fans also get a QR code that unlocks exclusive digital content, giving buyers behind the scenes access to Osimhen’s life at Galatasaray and other club experiences.

Galatasaray produced an initial run of 100,000 units, targeting potential revenue of up to €21.5m if all the boxes are sold. Early figures show tens of thousands of pre orders within days of launch, with reports putting income already generated in the multi million euro range as fans rush to secure the collectible.

Club officials see the Osimhen box as a key pillar in their strategy to offset the financial impact of the striker’s transfer fee and reported €15m per season salary. If the full 100,000 units are eventually sold, merchandising proceeds alone could effectively cover a significant portion of his wages while deepening Galatasaray’s commercial appeal across Africa and the global Nigerian diaspora.

The strong response underlines Osimhen’s star power and the marketing value attached to his move, with analysts describing the fan box initiative as one of the most innovative merchandising plays in European football in recent seasons. For Galatasaray, the success of the project could open the door to similar high end collector editions for other marquee signings in the future.

US Secretary of State Rubio denies fashion inspiration from Maduro

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has dismissed claims that he took fashion inspiration from deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro after a photo of him in a grey Nike tracksuit went viral online. Rubio was photographed aboard Air Force One in the outfit while travelling with President Donald Trump to China for high-level talks. Social media users quickly noticed that the tracksuit looked similar to the Nike Tech Fleece worn by Maduro when he was captured by US forces and pictured handcuffed inside a helicopter in January. The resemblance sparked a wave of memes and comments suggesting the top US diplomat was trolling or mocking the ousted Venezuelan strongman. Responding to reporters’ questions in Beijing, Rubio laughed off the comparison and insisted there was no hidden message behind his choice of clothing. “There’s no context. It’s a nice suit,” he […]

Fierce lobbying, tension as APC primaries begin

Intense lobbying and growing tension have greeted the All Progressives Congress’ nationwide primaries as the ruling party begins the process of selecting its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections. The primaries, which kicked off with House of Representatives contests, have already exposed fresh cracks in several state chapters. In many states, aspirants and their supporters are said to be locked in last-minute meetings with governors, ministers and other power brokers in a bid to secure party tickets. Reports indicate that hotel lobbies in Abuja and major state capitals are now packed with politicians seeking endorsements, funding and favourable word from key stakeholders. Consensus talks reportedly collapsed in a number of states on Thursday night after rival camps rejected attempts by party leaders to impose “unity candidates”. In some areas, aggrieved aspirants have threatened legal action or defection if they […]

Bodinga, a long-time ally, served in Tambuwal’s cabinet during his time as governor and is now being positioned as his preferred successor for the Sokoto South seat. In a message shared by his media team, Tambuwal said his decision followed wide consultations with political associates and constituents. Fulham manager Marco Silva initially described the setback as “really bad news”, but stressed that early indications suggested it was not a “serious, serious” hamstring problem. He said the club would have to wait for the results of a scan to determine the full extent of the damage, but remained hopeful that Iwobi could feature again before the end of the season.
