Aliko Dangote has reactivated plans to build a major deep seaport at Olokola in Ogun State, reviving a stalled project that is expected to be one of Nigeria’s largest port developments.
The proposed Olokola deep seaport will sit within the Olokola Free Trade Zone and is designed to handle large vessels and heavy cargo. It is expected to support exports of fertiliser, petrochemicals and, in the future, liquefied natural gas, while also improving the importation of equipment and raw materials for Dangote’s industries.
Dangote has already submitted key paperwork to the authorities to move the project forward, after getting renewed support from the Ogun State government and the Federal Government. The port site is planned to be about 100 kilometres from his refinery and fertiliser facilities around Lagos, creating a direct logistics corridor between the plants and the Atlantic coast.
Officials say the port will help decongest existing facilities in Lagos by opening another deep-sea gateway for imports and exports in the South West. The project is also expected to attract new investments to Ogun State and strengthen Nigeria’s position as a trade hub in West Africa.
The Olokola plan had faced years of delay due to political and regulatory issues, but investor-friendly policies and fresh approvals have brought it back on track. With preliminary work now reactivated, construction is expected to move ahead as part of a wider push to expand the country’s port and logistics infrastructure.

Breaking: WAEC releases 2026 results; 1.2m candidates pass English, Maths
The West African Examinations Council on Wednesday announced the release of the 2026 Computer‑Based WASSCE for school candidates, revealing that over 1.2 million students met the minimum requirement for admission into tertiary institutions. WAEC said 1,200,514 candidates, representing 61.54%, obtained credits and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics, slightly lower than the 62.96% recorded in 2025.
