Abia Government Demolishes Unauthorized Structures in Umuahia Market Area

The Abia State Government, through the Umuahia Capital Development Authority (UCDA), has begun demolishing buildings erected without approval in the former Umuahia market, popularly called Ogwumabiri. UCDA General Manager, Kingsley Agomoh, said on Monday that the demolition is part of the state’s plan to transform Umuahia into a modern, world-class capital. He explained that the land was allocated by the previous administration to a private investor for the construction of an event centre under a Build, Operate, and Transfer (BOT) arrangement. According to Agomoh, the investor deviated from the approved plan by developing residential duplexes and apartments on the site. He added that the government had engaged the investor for over a year and offered an ex-gratia settlement before reclaiming the land for a modern transportation hub. The proposed hub will integrate a bus terminal, train station, and intercity shuttle […]

Iran Seizes Foreign Tanker Over Alleged Fuel Smuggling

Iranian authorities have detained a foreign-flagged tanker in the Gulf, accusing it of carrying more than two million liters of smuggled fuel. The vessel, named Phoenix, was intercepted in Iranian territorial waters by border police in Hormozgan province, local media reported on Monday. Officials confirmed the arrest of 17 foreign crew members but did not disclose the ship’s country of registration. Fuel smuggling remains a persistent problem in Iran, where government subsidies keep fuel prices among the lowest globally. The country frequently reports the capture of vessels engaged in illegal fuel transport. In a similar case last month, Iranian forces seized another foreign tanker in the Sea of Oman, which was also reportedly carrying two million liters of smuggled fuel.

Oliseh emphasized that Nigeria's current fourth-place standing in Group C of the qualifiers – behind South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin […]

He urged local governments to utilize their enhanced […]
