SSANIP asks FG renegotiation panel to hasten talks

The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics has appealed to the Federal Government’s panel on the renegotiation of its agreement with unions in the polytechnic sector to speed up its work. The union said delays in concluding the process are frustrating workers and threatening the fragile peace in the system. SSANIP noted that the renegotiation of its agreement with the government has dragged on for years without clear timelines for completion. It warned that leaving key welfare issues unresolved for too long sends a wrong signal about how polytechnic workers are valued. The association urged members of the renegotiation panel to treat the process as urgent and to increase the frequency of meetings until a new agreement is reached and signed. It stressed that quick, sincere engagement will help prevent a repeat of past strikes that disrupted academic activities nationwide. […]

Iran boosts Kharg Island oil exports despite ongoing war

Iran’s oil exports from Kharg Island have increased despite the ongoing war with the United States and Israel, according to Iranian officials and local media. Kharg is Iran’s main export terminal and handles the vast majority of the country’s crude shipments. Moussa Ahmadi, head of the Iranian parliament’s energy commission, said that inspections and meetings on the island showed that oil exports have not decreased in recent days but have actually gone up. His comments were carried by Iran’s ISNA news agency. Kharg Island normally handles around 90 to 95 percent of Iran’s crude exports, estimated at about 1.7 to 2 million barrels per day before the latest escalation. Despite air strikes on military targets there, US officials have said they deliberately avoided hitting oil loading infrastructure, allowing exports to continue. Maritime data firms report that crude loading at Kharg […]

DHQ: Most terrorist fighters driven by fear and money, not belief

The Defence Headquarters says that more than 60 percent of terrorist fighters in Nigeria are not driven by extremist ideology but by fear, coercion and financial incentives. It explained that many of those taking part in insurgent activities were forced to join or lured with promises of money and protection. A statement from DHQ noted that only a minority of the fighters are hardcore ideologues or commanders who are deeply committed to the violent cause. The rest are described as followers who became involved due to threats to their lives, lack of options or economic hardship in their communities. According to the military, some recruits were abducted as teenagers, pressured through family connections or told their relatives would be harmed if they refused to fight. Others were attracted by the promise of regular income, food or a sense of belonging […]

US Israeli strike near Iran nuclear plant kills guard

Iran says a joint US Israeli strike has hit an area close to the Bushehr nuclear power plant in the country’s southwest, killing one person. According to the Atomic Energy Organisation of Iran, the victim was a security guard stationed at the site. The attack reportedly struck a support or side building in the vicinity of the plant rather than the main nuclear facilities themselves. Iranian officials said there was no damage to the reactor or core infrastructure and that electricity production at the Bushehr plant has not been affected. State media reported that the strike occurred at about 8:30 am local time on Saturday, amid continuing US Israeli air operations against Iranian targets across the country. The Bushehr incident is the latest in a series of attacks that have also hit military bases, industrial sites and other strategic locations […]

Tems shares painful details of past toxic relationship

Nigerian singer Tems has opened up about a past toxic relationship in which she mistakenly took control and obsession as signs of love. Atletico Madrid unhappy with NFF over Lookman’s workload

Atletico Madrid are reportedly unhappy with the Nigeria Football Federation over the heavy workload given to winger Ademola Lookman during the recent international break. The Spanish club is concerned that the forward played the full 180 minutes across Nigeria’s two friendly matches against Iran and Jordan. Reports from Spanish outlet AS say Atletico had been carefully managing Lookman’s minutes since his move to the club, with coach Diego Simeone rarely allowing him to complete full games in La Liga, the Copa del Rey or the UEFA Champions League. In most starts, the most he has played for Atletico is around 73 minutes. However, during the Super Eagles’ friendlies, Lookman played 89 minutes in the 2 1 win over Iran and then completed the entire 2 2 draw against Jordan in Antalya, Turkey. Atletico view this as excessive, especially as the […]
