Boniface admits battling depression after tough year

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has revealed that he has been battling depression after a difficult year marked by injuries, criticism and failed transfer moves. The Bayer Leverkusen striker, whose rise had looked unstoppable, has seen his momentum slowed by a series of physical and emotional setbacks over the past 12 months. In a brief message on his X page, he wrote in pidgin English, “Depression real die,” a short but powerful statement that captured the weight of what he has been going through. Boniface’s troubles began with a groin injury in early 2024 that required surgery and ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations. Later that year, he suffered a thigh injury on international duty, cutting short a promising season. Matters got worse when knee problems resurfaced, forcing him to undergo another surgery in January 2026. The […]

Arsenal title hopes suffer setback in Bournemouth defeat

Arsenal’s Premier League title hopes were dealt a major blow as they lost 2 1 at home to Bournemouth at the Emirates Stadium. Victory would have given the Gunners a 12 point lead over second placed Manchester City before Pep Guardiola’s side play Chelsea on Sunday, but instead they missed the chance to stretch their advantage. Bournemouth started the game more confidently and took the lead when Junior Kroupi finished from close range after Adrien Truffert’s deflected cross fell kindly to him in the box. Arsenal responded before half time and levelled when Viktor Gyokeres smashed in a penalty after Ryan Christie was penalised for handball while trying to block a shot. With the score at 1 1 and tension rising, Mikel Arteta turned to his bench in the second half, introducing Eberechi Eze, Leandro Trossard and 16 year old […]

Brazil head coach Carlo Ancelotti says he is confident that Neymar is progressing well in his recovery and remains on course to play at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, but stressed that only fully fit players will make his final squad. Speaking about the forward’s chances, Ancelotti said there is no special treatment for any player and that Neymar, like others, must prove he is physically ready for the tournament. He explained that the Al Hilal star has around two months to show that he still has the quality and fitness level required to compete at the highest stage. Ancelotti noted that Neymar has made a good comeback after his recent knee injury and is already scoring again for his club. However, he insisted the 32 year old must continue improving his sharpness and match fitness. The Italian coach repeated […]

Rising diesel costs cripple fishing as 80 percent of vessels stop work

Rising diesel prices have crippled Nigeria’s fishing industry, leaving more than 80 percent of trawler vessels grounded. A visit to the Ijora Fish Market in Lagos showed a sharp drop in fish supplied by Nigerian trawlers, leading to scarcity and higher prices for consumers. Retired Navy Captain Oladele Robinson, National Executive Secretary of the Fisheries Cooperatives Federation of Nigeria, said both artisanal and industrial operators are badly hit by the soaring cost of fuel. He explained that small scale fishers rely on petrol PMS to power their boats, while industrial trawlers depend entirely on diesel AGO. Many now go to sea and return without enough catch to cover fuel costs, making trips unsustainable. Robinson said this situation is driving up the prices of fish and other seafood across markets. Sources close to the Nigerian Trawlers Owners Association NITOA said diesel […]
