APC’s Danjuma Shekwolo wins Kuje area council chairmanship

All Progressives Congress candidate Danjuma Shekwolo has been declared winner of the Kuje Area Council chairmanship election in the Federal Capital Territory. He secured 17,269 votes to defeat his closest rivals in the poll. Announcing the result, Returning Officer Prof Nkiruka Odoh of the University of Abuja said Shekwolo, having scored the highest number of lawful votes and met all legal requirements, was duly elected and returned as council chairman. The declaration of the Kuje result completes the announcement of winners for chairmanship positions across the six FCT area councils. With this outcome, the APC now controls Kuje along with other councils won in Saturday’s elections.

Obasanjo urges reforms, restoration of law programme at NOUN

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has called for major reforms at the National Open University of Nigeria, including the restoration of its suspended law programme. NDLEA arrests fake pregnancy drug trafficker, real estate CEO in major raids

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested a woman who allegedly used a fake pregnancy bump to traffic drugs, along with a Lagos based real estate chief executive accused of running a cannabis distribution network. The agency said both suspects were picked up in separate operations that also led to multiple seizures across several states. At the Seme land border, operatives intercepted 35 year old businesswoman Rabi Muhammad as she attempted to cross into Benin Republic with 3,200 tramadol 225mg capsules tied around her waist and hidden under an artificial baby bump. Tinubu congratulates FCT, Kano, Rivers poll winners, hails Wike

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the winners of Saturday’s elections in the Federal Capital Territory, Kano and Rivers States. He urged them to see the mandates given to them by voters as a sacred trust and to serve with humility, patriotism and dedication. Elections were held for chairmanship and councillorship seats in the six FCT area councils, as well as state assembly by elections in Kano Municipal and Ungogo in Kano, and Ahoada East II and Khana II in Rivers. 10 injured as suspected political thugs attack Ebonyi villagers

At least 10 residents of Ndiche Umuomara village in Ndiagu Amagu, Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, have been injured in an attack by suspected political thugs. The victims are receiving treatment in different hospitals across the state.​ One of the victims, Nze Ukwa Nwankwo, who is being treated at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, said he was preparing to attend a meeting called by the traditional ruler when the violence broke out. Kano assembly by elections peaceful but record low turnout

The Kano State House of Assembly by elections held on Saturday were largely peaceful but recorded very low voter turnout in many polling units. The exercise took place in Kano Municipal and Ungogo local government areas to fill two vacant seats in the state assembly. Troops kill five terrorists, rescue three abducted children in Borno

Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised five terrorists and rescued three abducted children in separate operations carried out in Borno State. The Joint Task Force said the operations took place between February 20 and 21 as part of ongoing efforts to crush insurgent groups in the North East. Hezbollah vows to keep fighting after deadly Israeli airstrike in Lebanon

Hezbollah has warned that it has no choice but to continue its armed resistance after an Israeli airstrike on eastern Lebanon killed eight of its fighters. The group said Israeli forces targeted its command centres in the Bekaa region, while separate strikes in the south hit areas linked to the Palestinian group Hamas. Gunmen attack Delta APC congress, Ibori Suenu escapes alleged assassination

Gunmen stormed an All Progressives Congress ward congress in Delta State on Saturday, forcing House of Representatives member Erhiatake Ibori Suenu to be whisked away by security operatives in what her camp described as an assassination attempt.
