Anthony Davis will miss roughly six weeks after suffering ligament damage in his left hand, but the Dallas Mavericks confirmed that surgery will not be required. The decision followed medical evaluations earlier this week, with doctors expecting the injury to heal naturally over that period.
The veteran center was hurt late in last week’s narrow loss to the Utah Jazz while defending Lauri Markkanen on a drive to the basket. Davis immediately showed visible discomfort and was forced to leave the game and head to the locker room.
This is the second lengthy absence of the season for the 10-time All-Star. Davis previously missed nearly all of November due to a calf strain and has also dealt with a groin issue. As a result, he has already been unavailable for half of Dallas’ 40 games this season.
Injuries have followed Davis since he arrived in Dallas following the high-profile trade that sent Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. In his first appearance with the Mavericks last February, he re-injured an abdominal issue and was sidelined for 18 straight games. Since that debut, Davis has missed more than half of Dallas’ total games, including two crucial play-in contests last season.
His latest setback complicates the Mavericks’ plans as they weigh their long-term direction. With the team struggling in the Western Conference and sitting outside serious playoff contention, Dallas could consider moving Davis as part of an effort to reset after the disappointing outcome of the Doncic trade.
The situation also impacts decisions surrounding Kyrie Irving, who is still recovering from a torn ACL suffered last March. Although Irving was initially expected back early this year, the team’s current position may influence how aggressively it pushes for his return.
Rookie Cooper Flagg has provided flashes of hope, but the Mavericks are trending toward missing the postseason for a second straight year since their 2024 Finals run. If Davis is able to return on schedule, his availability could improve his trade value, giving Dallas an opportunity to send him to a contender before the playoffs and potentially reshape its future.

Israel-Iran Strikes Test Fragile Middle East Diplomacy
The latest exchange of strikes between Israel and Iran has raised fresh concerns about instability in the Middle East, highlighting the fragile state of regional ceasefires and the challenges facing ongoing diplomatic efforts. The confrontation began after Iran launched missiles at Israel, describing the attack as retaliation for Israeli operations in Beirut. Israel responded by carrying out air strikes inside Iran, marking the first direct attack on Iranian territory since a ceasefire between the two countries was reached in April. The escalation unfolded despite public calls from US President Donald Trump urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further military action. The episode has renewed questions about Washington's ability to influence Israeli decision-making during a period of heightened regional tensions. Following the missile exchange, Trump said he had contacted Netanyahu and encouraged restraint. However, Israeli military operations proceeded shortly […]

The migrants, most of them young men, were reportedly detained by an armed group after arriving in Libya during the summer of 2025. Several former hostages who have since returned home described months of captivity under harsh conditions. They reported being held in overcrowded cells, suffering physical abuse, and receiving minimal food and medical care. Earlier, Iran's military stated that it had concluded its operations after delivering what it described as a "painful response" to Israeli actions. Tehran warned that any future attacks by Israel, including those carried out in Lebanon, would trigger a stronger retaliation. As he prepares to earn his 100th cap for Nigeria in Wednesday's international friendly against Portugal, Nigeria midfielder Alex Iwobi says he has no regrets about his decade-long career with the Super Eagles. Iwobi made his senior debut for Nigeria in October 2015 and will become only the fourth Nigerian player to reach 100 international caps, joining Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa. Barring any unexpected twist, Iwobi is expected to join Jospeh Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa as one of only four Nigerians to have played a century of games for the national team when he lines out against Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal in Leiria. His 99th appearance was during a friendly match against Jordan in Antalya in March, and unfortunately, he was sent off after uncharacteristically reacting to an opponent grabbing him.
