Speaking on Channel One, Mr. Ofosu admitted that he underestimated the weight of the position until he took office himself. “I must indicate that contesting and running for MP has opened my eyes to a lot of things. I used to underestimate the kind of stress that MPs come under,” he said. He explained that MPs face relentless pressure because they are the most visible and approachable representatives of their constituencies. “They are the face of the constituencies. They are the ones that people know. So people go to them with all manner of requests that stretch them to their limits,” he noted. Mr. Ofosu further argued […]

Nkwanta South MCE warns of revenue shortfall, conflict

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South, Joseph Antwi Awal, has highlighted the urgent need to strengthen revenue mobilisation as the assembly grapples with a major financial shortfall caused by ongoing conflicts in the area. Mr. Awal expressed concern that this gap threatens the sustainability of local governance and the implementation of key development projects. Delivering his sessional address at the ninth assembly meeting, he attributed the shortfall to weak tax collection mechanisms and persistent insecurity in the municipality. He warned that without decisive action, essential services and infrastructure projects could be stalled. To close the gap, the MCE proposed tougher tax collection measures, the creation of a dedicated task force to identify system loopholes, and public education campaigns on […]

Government Allocates GH¢1 Billion to End Double-Track in Senior High Schools

The government has announced a GH¢1 billion allocation to phase out the double-track system in senior high schools across Ghana. The Education Minister, Haruna Iddrisu, revealed this plan during the inauguration of a new staff accommodation facility at Accra Girls’ Senior High School. The investment, expected to feature in next year’s budget, will be sourced from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) and directed toward addressing long-standing infrastructure deficits in the education sector. The double-track system was first introduced in the 2018/2019 academic year as a temporary solution to manage overcrowding in schools after the Free SHS policy significantly increased enrolment. Students were divided into two groups who alternated in cycles, making it possible to maximize existing facilities. While it provided a short-term fix, the system was never intended as a permanent feature. Haruna Iddrisu explained that the proposed investment […]
