Bawku factions sign peace pact in Ashanti Region

Indigenes of Bawku living in the Ashanti Region have signed a peace pact aimed at preventing the long-standing Kusaasi–Mamprusi conflict from spreading into Kumasi. The development comes in the wake of violent clashes in Asawase and Asokore Mampong that claimed two lives, including that of a local chief, sparking fears that the Bawku conflict could inflame further unrest in the Ashanti capital. The Ashanti Regional Security Council facilitated the peace agreement as part of wider efforts to maintain order while the Asantehene-led committee continues broader mediation to restore lasting peace in Bawku. A seven-member committee, made up of representatives of security agencies, first held separate meetings with both factions before bringing them together for a joint session. This dialogue culminated in the symbolic signing of the peace pact at the Ashanti Regional Police Command. Head of Public Relations at the […]

MOFA distributes 900 seized pumps to farmers

The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) has distributed 900 water pumping machines, previously seized from illegal mining (galamsey) sites, to nine regions across Ghana. The initiative is part of efforts to boost agricultural productivity under the government’s Feed Ghana Programme. At a ceremony held in Amrahia, Accra, the Minister of Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, officially handed over the machines to regional ministers from the Upper East, Upper West, North East, Savannah, Northern, Greater Accra, Volta, Oti, and Bono East Regions. Each region will receive 100 machines, which will then be allocated to farmer cooperatives for use in irrigation and crop production. Mr. Opoku explained that the court ordered the confiscated machines to be given to MOFA to support food production. He added that the beneficiary regions were deliberately selected because galamsey activities are not prevalent there. “We wanted […]

Accra Warehouse Fire Still Burning Strong

A massive fire that broke out at a Chinese warehouse in Lartebiokorshie, Accra, is still burning days after it started on Tuesday, September 9, according to the Ghana National Fire Service.
