According to the government, this campaign is based on false information , doctored images , sometimes generated by artificial intelligence, or even imported from contexts foreign to Togo . Its objective? To disrupt public order , weaken the national economy , and undermine republican institutions .
A population remained calm despite calls for civil disobedience
Despite these calls for mobilization against the government, the population remained calm and responsible , continuing its activities in a climate of peace and serenity , the official press release emphasizes.
The authorities also returned to the incidents that occurred on June 26, 27 and 28 in certain districts of Lomé , where individuals, according to the text, manipulated by agitators, engaged in acts of vandalism , violence and destruction .
A rapid and controlled intervention by the security forces
The rapid and controlled response of the security forces , in coordination with the local authorities and the population , made it possible to quickly restore order , says the government, which congratulates the professionalism of the services concerned.
Several people were arrested , including foreigners illegally present on Togolese territory , all placed under legal proceedings for flagrante delicto , under the authority of the public prosecutor of Lomé.
Furthermore, the alleged instigators of this destabilization campaign are already facing legal proceedings . The government has announced that it has activated international criminal cooperation mechanisms to bring them to justice.
