Resident doctors to begin indefinite nationwide strike Tuesday

The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors has declared an indefinite nationwide strike to begin at 12 00 a m on Tuesday April 7 2026. The decision followed an extraordinary NEC meeting where the body reviewed government’s handling of its long standing demands. NARD said the action became inevitable after repeated failures by the Federal Government to honour agreements and implement terms reached in earlier negotiations. The doctors accused authorities of making promises on paper without translating them into concrete improvements on the ground. Key issues listed include unpaid salary and promotion arrears for many members across teaching and specialist hospitals.
