Officials warn the situation could worsen, particularly depending on developments in the Middle East. This renewed pressure has brought energy independence back into focus. After the shock of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Europe is once again reassessing how it powers its economies. Nuclear energy returns to the spotlight Nuclear power is increasingly being reconsidered as part of Europe’s long-term energy strategy. The UK Ministry of Defence confirmed that, as a precaution, family members of personnel stationed at the base would be moved to alternative accommodation. On Monday, staff at the base were warned of an “ongoing security threat” and advised to stay away from windows and take shelter behind furniture. Christodoulides stated that a Shahed unmanned aerial vehicle had crashed within the British Sovereign Base Area. Cyprus officials later said two drones heading toward RAF Akrotiri had been intercepted. The Sovereign Base Areas Administration announced a temporary dispersal of non-essential personnel from the station but clarified that nearby Akrotiri village residents did not need to evacuate. EU weighs tough response to Trump’s Greenland tariffs

European Union officials and lawmakers are calling for the first ever use of the bloc’s Anti Coercion Instrument in response to new tariff threats by United States President Donald Trump over Greenland. Trump has vowed escalating tariffs on Denmark, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Britain and Norway until Washington is allowed to buy Greenland. The affected countries already face US tariffs of 10 and 15 percent and have each sent small contingents of military personnel to Greenland. Cyprus, which holds the rotating EU presidency, has summoned EU ambassadors to an emergency meeting in Brussels to discuss the response. A source close to French President Emmanuel Macron said he is working to coordinate a common European strategy and supports activating the Anti Coercion Instrument. The tool could restrict US access to public tenders in the EU or limit trade in […]

Commission spokesperson Arianna Podesta told reporters: “We can indeed confirm that there was GPS jamming.” She added that Bulgarian authorities believe Moscow was behind the interference, although it is not yet clear whether von der Leyen’s plane was specifically targeted. EU Slams Russia After Deadly Missile Strikes on Kyiv

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has condemned Russia’s deadliest attack on Kyiv since July, which killed 17 people, including four children, and damaged the EU’s delegation office in the Ukrainian capital. A five-storey residential block in the Darnytskyi district collapsed after being struck by a missile in the early hours of Thursday. Ukrainian officials said many of the victims were trapped inside their homes, with rescue workers digging through rubble to search for survivors. Three of the children killed were aged two, 14 and 17. Von der Leyen described the bombardment as “another grim reminder” of Russia’s intent to terrorise civilians, noting that two missiles landed just 50 metres from the EU delegation. Images shared by EU officials showed shattered windows and ceilings torn down at the mission’s Kyiv office. The British Council, housed in the same block, […]
