Stakeholders Demand Probe After Nigeria’s World Cup Bid Fails

Football stakeholders in Nigeria are demanding an urgent investigation into the failings of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) after the Super Eagles’ campaign to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup ended in defeat to DR Congo. Allegations of corruption and poor management have surfaced, with ex-internationals Harrison Jalla and Adegoke Adelabu insisting the sport needs a complete overhaul. Nigeria missed the 2022 and now 2026 tournaments despite the government allocating N1 billion for the recent playoff, and players reportedly went on strike over unpaid allowances. Critics say the NFF lacks transparency and accountability, running “like a cult.” They urge President Tinubu to dissolve the current board, probe the failed campaign, and initiate serious reforms. Adelabu called for a panel to evaluate the failures and recommend fixes, while Theodore Chukwuemeka bemoaned Nigeria’s absence from the World Cup, calling it a […]

US Congress Launches Sweeping Investigation into Nigeria’s Alleged Christian Genocide

The United States House of Representatives Subcommittee on Africa will convene a public hearing on November 20, 2025, to investigate allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria and review President Donald Trump’s move to redesignate Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC). This label, pending Senate approval, could authorize sanctions against Nigerian officials implicated in religious repression and restrict certain US-Nigeria partnerships. Chaired by Representative Chris Smith, the session features panels of senior US State Department officials and Nigerian faith leaders, including Bishop Wilfred Anagbe of Makurdi Catholic Diocese. Testimonies will address rising attacks on Christian communities, mass displacement, and killings attributed to Islamist militants and armed groups. Wike Deserves National Apology Over Clash With Naval Officer — PANDEF

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has called for a national apology to the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following his clash with a naval officer in Abuja. PANDEF National Chairman, Ambassador Godknows Igali, urged President Tinubu to direct security agencies to investigate fully and bring those responsible to book, emphasizing respect for civil authority and professionalism in the military. Igali described the officer’s actions as a show of disdain for Wike’s office and an affront to presidential authority, noting Wike as one of the administration’s best-performing ministers. PANDEF insisted military personnel should not be used for non-core duties like guarding personal properties, and that Wike deserves both protection and respect while carrying out his official mandates in the FCT. The organization warned against glamorizing military insubordination and criticized retired officers allegedly issuing illegal orders.

Presidency Eyes NNPC Shake-Up As Oil Output Falters

The Nigerian presidency is considering major reforms at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) amid concerns over faltering oil production. Special Adviser on Energy, Olu Verheijen, announced at a petroleum conference in Lagos that Nigeria’s goal of producing 3 million barrels per day requires more than the current NNPC structure and output. NNPC Exploration & Production Limited currently produces only 220,000 barrels/day, less than 10% of national output, and struggles with the financial capacity to fund new drilling campaigns. Verheijen advocated for “performance-based stewardship” and suggested restructuring asset ownership to involve reputable operators with strong technical and financial capacity, instead of relying solely on NNPC. She outlined four pillars for revitalizing the energy sector: reserves, revenues, reliability, and responsibility. Nigeria has secured $8bn in new investment and targets another $20bn for expansion into gas, petrochemicals, and refining. NNPC Chairman […]
