Werder Bremen hand Boniface timely boost ahead of derby

Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune says Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface could be involved in this weekend’s high stakes North German derby against Hamburger SV as he steps up his recovery from injury. Boniface has been out since December 2025 after undergoing knee surgery but is now back in individual training and working towards full fitness. Thioune said no player has been ruled out yet and a final decision on Boniface will depend on how he responds in the final training sessions before the game. The coach stressed that Boniface is unlikely to start the match. Any involvement is expected to come from the bench as Bremen carefully manage his return after previously criticising him for not controlling his weight properly during rehabilitation. Werder Bremen are just above the relegation zone and under serious pressure after a poor run of […]

Boniface admits battling depression after tough year

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has revealed that he has been battling depression after a difficult year marked by injuries, criticism and failed transfer moves. The Bayer Leverkusen striker, whose rise had looked unstoppable, has seen his momentum slowed by a series of physical and emotional setbacks over the past 12 months. In a brief message on his X page, he wrote in pidgin English, “Depression real die,” a short but powerful statement that captured the weight of what he has been going through. Boniface’s troubles began with a groin injury in early 2024 that required surgery and ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations. Later that year, he suffered a thigh injury on international duty, cutting short a promising season. Matters got worse when knee problems resurfaced, forcing him to undergo another surgery in January 2026. The […]

Besiktas line up summer move for Arokodare

Turkish giants Besiktas are reportedly planning a summer move for Super Eagles striker Tolu Arokodare. According to Turkish outlet Besiktas Yetiyor, the Istanbul club want to reunite Arokodare with his former Genk strike partner Oh Hyeon gyu, who already plays for them. The club believes the understanding both players built in Belgium could help strengthen their attack in the Turkish Super Lig if they are brought together again. Arokodare left Genk for Wolves last summer in a deal worth about €26 million. His first season in England has been demanding, with the 25 year old scoring six goals and providing two assists in 32 appearances across all competitions. Reports in Turkey say Besiktas see him as a key target for the next transfer window and are monitoring his situation at Wolves ahead of a possible bid.

Ajibade blasts NFF over poor Falcons WAFCON plans

Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has criticised the Nigeria Football Federation over what she called poor preparation for upcoming tournaments, including the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup. In a series of posts on her Instagram story on Wednesday, she expressed frustration that the NFF had not officially communicated key details such as the opening date of the national team camp and confirmed friendly matches for the April international window. Ajibade shared a screenshot of a chat that appeared to show an NFF official informally telling her that camp would open on April 11. She condemned the lack of formal notice, saying players were still in the dark about camp logistics and preparatory games for the window running from April 7 to 18. She reminded the federation that the team is not only […]

Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi has admitted fault and apologised for the late red card he received in Nigeria’s 2 2 friendly draw against Jordan on March 31. Speaking on the Alexander Yaa Digg podcast, Iwobi said he felt compelled to address the incident publicly and take full responsibility for his actions. “I need to apologise to all my Nigerian teammates, staff and everyone who cares about Nigeria. Super Eagles unhappy as NFF withholds Turkey appearance fees

Super Eagles players have expressed disappointment after the Nigeria Football Federation failed to pay their agreed appearance fees for the recent friendly matches against Iran and Jordan in Antalya, Turkey. The team defeated Iran 2 1 and drew 2 2 with Jordan during the March international window. Reports say the friendlies were organised by the Jordan Football Association, which will pay the NFF an appearance fee for Nigeria’s participation. However, despite this, the players were not paid their own appearance entitlements at the end of the games. According to sources quoted by ScoreNigeria, each player is entitled to 2,000 dollars per match, but no payment was made for either of the two fixtures. The players were said to be angry and accused the NFF of making empty promises and failing once again to honour financial agreements. This is not the […]

Atletico Madrid unhappy with NFF over Lookman’s workload

Atletico Madrid are reportedly unhappy with the Nigeria Football Federation over the heavy workload given to winger Ademola Lookman during the recent international break. The Spanish club is concerned that the forward played the full 180 minutes across Nigeria’s two friendly matches against Iran and Jordan. Reports from Spanish outlet AS say Atletico had been carefully managing Lookman’s minutes since his move to the club, with coach Diego Simeone rarely allowing him to complete full games in La Liga, the Copa del Rey or the UEFA Champions League. In most starts, the most he has played for Atletico is around 73 minutes. However, during the Super Eagles’ friendlies, Lookman played 89 minutes in the 2 1 win over Iran and then completed the entire 2 2 draw against Jordan in Antalya, Turkey. Atletico view this as excessive, especially as the […]
